I've gone through phases where all i eat for dinner is a tuna on wheat or crackers or even alone plain... Now it looks like i'll hold back a little. It's only wed and according to that calculator i've reached my limit for the week... WTF!

When my wife was pregnant, the DR told her NO SEA FOOD.... PERIOD and when I asked why he said for the same reasons posted....

tuna MUST be mixed with alot of mayo. and not that low fat shit either!

the addition of provoline cheese is a must...
the bread must be fresh though! thats key to any crazy sandwich...

i like my onions sliced really really thin..
tomatoes and finely shredded lettuce and we're straight.

some pickles on the side, and doritos ranch and its on!

Tuna is such a easy lean source of protein and good too! One little can contains anywhere from 30-40g of protein! All great things have a bad side :(.
I use to eat tuna everyday untill I heard about the whole mercury issue. I still eat it often but not quite as often as before.

Thanks now i'm one hungry s.o.b.................. :chomp:

thats a load of crap. ive eaten tuna everyday sometimes. and 3 cans per meal. and im perfectly fine. and a looooooot of people i know do the same thing and are fine. this thing is blown way out of proportion.

I believe it depends on the individual..i know that for a while...i was feeling sick eating tuna everyday..and only right after i consumed it.....so i stopped and felt alot better...now i just through it in here and there...and works just great for me!

lol so true bro especially when you forget to rinse that damn cup out the night before and you have that great smell left in it until you soak that fucker in something.......

Bro dont you think that, coz you got sick of the taste you felt sick (psychologically)? It happened to me to, so i ate less tuna more steak, then less steak more chicken, then less chicken more tuna and the cycle repeats. personally i cant drink those protein shakes, ill yakk. but just coz i feel sick after drinking then, it doesnt mean that there's something wrong with the shake, its just me being sick of them thats wrong.but this thing is blown wayyyy out of proportion. it kinda sounds like a conspiracy theory. it might have mercury but in insignificant amounts. so dont worry bros, keep eating tuna.

So what will to much mercury do to you???

It can poison you.

bro you dont get it. according to them if you eat more than they say, which we do by GREAT extents, we should be dropping like flies or at least be in really bad shape. they say you cant eat over 1 can per week, i eat at least 9 cans per week. sometimes 15. by their logic i should be poisoned by the mercury in them. but i feel fine. and all the tests that i do after my cycles are top notch. and whats a mercury test? if theres too much mercury in me, then the blood work would show, they would see the irregularities. this is just a scare. i can make a fancy website with a calculator and say: X amount of chicken breast will result in lead poisoning. you guys would believe that? cmon man, this is tuna we're talking about, its not a new product that we're trying out now, we eat this like there's no tomorrow. according to them we should at least be sick by now.

You know, I really dont even want to get into this. However, I will say this:

There is a reason a THIRD of people will die of cancer, and the amount of people is ever increasing. Everyone talks shit about how "well I do (insert risky activity here), and I feel great." It DOES catch up to you.

Pollutants and manufacted goods are the causes. But, feel free to feel fine.

(BTW, mercury falls into the "pollutants" category)

Do a search for "methyl mercury" and see what you come up with.

Also, normal bloodwork doesnt show shit to do with mercury, just like a thousand other things that it does nothing for.

I read that, the 'dangerous mercury levels' are for fresh tuna, not canned tuna. canned tuna is mostly from younger fish, who havent had the time to absorb the mercury.

canned tuna contains much less mercury, because the fish dont have the time to build up mercury levels, thus its safer..

i eat a ton of canned tuna, and i haven't brained my damage yet. :p

No shit, I eat 2 cans per day and have been doing that for about 10 years now. Before that I ate tuna too, just not to the excess I do now. Right now its 2 cans of tuna for breakfast, yum.

I eat vast amounts of tuna in oil ,about 3 tins a day
I know it contains mercurey but I read some were that drinking tea helps to rid the body of heavy poisonous metals and I drink loads of tea so hopefully the balance is about right

I agree. I eat 2-4 can a week and have been doing so for 20 years...

My cat weighs 17 pounds and he eats all the tuna juice I can squeeze out for him, and he's diesel.

I dont know how much the mercury effects people. about 2 years ago, I did an extreme cutter. for 30 days, I consumed nothing but 8 cans a day. no mayo, no bread. I tried ketchup, mustard, and hot sauce . and I felt fine. and I looked great. got down to 215, with my top 6 showing. but I couldn't look at at a can of tuna for about six months. I know consume 8-12 cans a week.

I've done a bit of reading on this subject and according to most medical journals, there's a huge difference in the levels of mercury in tuna depending upon what kind you buy.

Apparently albacore, or white tuna, has the highest levels of mercury, while light tuna, has miniscule amounts.

Most people prefer white tuna, but just to be on the safe side, I've switched over to light for my tuna shakes.

fuck i know people that live off the shit...and my dad always ate tuna when he was a bodybuilder and he's in great health for how old he is...i dont believe all that crap about dont eat tuna, dont drink tap water, dont piss on a electrical fence

word. you can get thin talapia fillets at wal mart or sams that cook perfectly in the microwave...throw a little mrs dash and i can believe it's not butter on and you're set...only like 75 cents a piece...

Guys, the problem is that tuna contains more mercury NOW. "My dad did it" has no relevance. There wasnt nearly the amounts of mercury back then as there are today.

really? and why is there just now more mercury in the past 30 years? I WANT SOME FACTS

My co-workers once told me I needed to stop eating tuna because everyday when I come in, my breath stinks of it, I told him I had'nt had a can of tuna in weeks...

Think about it ;)

I thought it had to do with the amount of mercury that accumulated in the tunas body. so what would this have to do with thirty yrs ago? bro this thread is sooooo ridiculous its pointless to agrue. if you wanna be paranoid and not eat tuna then dont. if you wanna be realistic and keep eating tuna then go ahead. i dont even think we need to prove why tuna is perfectly fine to eat. coz almost every one here eats huge amounts of it, i mean something should have happened to us. at least one of us. what youre not getting bro is that tuna has such a small number of mercury in it that its insignificant.

It does. But, you are missing the fact there there is more mercury now in the waters, and therefore more in the fish.

In small fish, I agree. However, in large fish, it is entirely different. It is NOT insignificant.

"The advisory comes on the heels of an extensive report issued by the National Academy of Sciences which estimates that each year 60,000 children may be born in the United States with neurological problems as a result of exposure to methylmercury in the womb."

BTW i have eaten thousands of cans of tuna. I have been tested, have had very high levels of mercury, am currently on DMSA therapy, and have all the classic symptoms of mercuty toxicity. But yeah, insignificant.

PLEASE read some. I was looking for, but could not find the FDA fact sheet about large fish, Many types of fish of X number of inches they recomened that you do not even eat a single bite, because of the mercury. I know kingfish was one of them.

1/3 of people die from cancer. Cancer is from toxins. I do not see how people can ignore this. I challenge all you heavy tuna and large game fish eaters to have a mercury test. The results will suprise you.

BTW, I ate about 7-10 cans a week for 3+ years, along with gamefish.

But yeah, insignificant.

so you agree... jklol

In small fish, I agree. However, in large fish, it is entirely different. It is NOT insignificant.

So then choose the brand of tuna. its not rocket science.

You sound like a smoker.

?ok?

Bro for the last time im not saying tuna doesnt have mercury, all im saying is this is a scare. you are the first person that i know that had to have some treatment for high mercury levels. and trust me i know ALOT of people that eat tuna as much if not more than you used to, myself included. as i said, if you want to believe this, then go right ahead, dont eat tuna, thats fine. if you dont believe it, like a lot of bros on this site then continue eating it. like i said theres nooooooo need to discuss this, we're not coming to a conclusion. this has been proven its up to you as an individual to decide if the benefits weigh out the risks. for me they do my a lot. its the same with deciding to use gear, i can argue its good or bad, all it boils down to is personal decision.

:worried: oh dear time to find a new protien source,I eat over a 1lb of fish each week mainly tins of tuna in oil
how do you go about a mercury test?

Too much sodium for me... canned tuna sucks ass. Anything canned is garbage.

I prefer Salmon steaks, Sword Fish or Mahi Mahi.

I swapped over to the packaged pink salmon. It tastes much better. Probably has as much mercury as tuna though.

Really, are you telling me on a steroid forum someones worried about the mercury content in canned tuna? Thats funny. I got lots more to worry about in my body than bad tuna.

For once I agree with you. My six year old son loves the stuff. I wanted to find out how much mercury was in a can of tuna. So I started calling labs to see if I can get a can tested. Everyone of the labs told me the same thing. If there is any mercury in a can of tuna it's to small of an amount to be detected.

This is really bullshit produced by environmentalist and picked up as reactionary news my the media.

I used to drink 16 oz of mercury per day...heard heavy metal was good for you. I then heard that there was a trace of tuna in it.

I completely freaked out...
