trouble with thai kick follow up

a quick kick with my front is no problem and usually sets me up for a nice combo with my hands...

when sparring with shin pads on and i go for my big right, i usually aim for the riibs and connect but have trouble following up. because i have such a long reach with my legs.... i cant usually reach a jab or a cross. only time i haev alot of luck is with a counter kick usually i kick so hard i knock his leg out from under him.should i not be using my leg reach to this much of an advantage and get closer when i kick or should i follow with more kicks?

Well , Im tall , so Ill take a Stab at it .

You could Try Doubling up with the same leg . Round Kick followed by a Sidekick had been known to REALLY e a hard one to Solve for some ppl , and is rather easy to practice on a Heavybag . especially if you couple that with a Level change - as in if the Curl up a bit from the Round , Side them iun the Face - besides that if you get used to throwing the kick high its just easier to throw it Low when you need to .

Stomp ! TRY to Stomp behind the knee (KneePit ?) of the Opponent if you can , but the Primary Function is to take your Opponent's Space . as your body slides forward throwing an Elbow would probably be Prudent .

put your foot dow ourside your opponents oKicked side leg and then Kick with the other leg , sweeping across your plane of motion with yor leg .

Yes that side kick from a roundhouse would be hard for a shorter guy to stop. I do belive it would keep the guy at your strikeing range too.

when i sweep across or do the side kick what should be the target..... ribs?

Ideally the Inside of the Thigh between his Legs , especially if its the leg hes standing on . This is called "Attacking The Post" in CMA

if that kick is rangy enough to keep them out of your punch range does it do the same to the guy your hitting
if so dont' be worried too much with follow ups from that technique it's more of a free shot
another option would be to follow up with your lead leg tho

Thai kick isnt too descriptive. What kick?

If you are using front leg it is IMPERRATIVE that you DO NOT move you back leg prior to attack. nearly all amateurs do this, and its like sending the guy a letter telling him you are gonna kick him in a minute. You might try a tease kick. back foot stays exactly where it is, as he steps in but before the weight is tranfered to the front foot fully, you tease kick ( front leg round house that is midified a little for less hip movement ) you target the inner thigh just above the knee, it has to be more SPEED then the POWER on this, as it will be most effective if you land before he lands his front foot. This will Open the legs on the guys. You return the lead leg to its original spot, and the back foot has still not moved. You then do a 1 - 2 combo without turning right hip over on the 2, and then into a right rear roundhouse. DO NOT drop the right hand, keep at head level, as on the return ( not after, but during ) the return of the right leg, fire the flash right into chest then either scoot, eject or teep.

Hope that helps!
