Training with a back injury

My dad is getting into training and he has a L4 Injury in his back, basically the fang part if broken off

here is the problem he feels slight discomfort doing squats, but this could also be due to his poor flexibility, should he wear a belt during squats and bring up lower back strength on back day? or leave squats out?

also would deads be ideal for him or would hypers be better?

thanks guys

what is the fang part? the spinous process??

i think he shoudl do some hypers and reverse hypers to build up the strength there, also to stretch a lot to get teh flexibility up before jumping into the squatting

I think the fang part is where it hooks into the spine, not sure,he knows

so do you figure leg presses are a better idea until then? I have no experience with injuries like this at all

thanks bro
