Competitive bodybuilding was the first (or one of the first) "extreme sports" in my opinion. The 20 weeks of dieting is extreme, then the shit that goes on the week prior to getting on stage is again "extreme" and THEN the funny part---painting all that crap on your body so you can look as brown as me! LOL man it is just not a sport that every "body-builder" can do.

I don't miss a day in the gym ever, unless I am sick which is very, very rare. I treat "lifting" like my way of life depends on it. To me "just lifting weights" is not sincere enough to achieve my personal goals. My personal goals require lifting, dieting, and supplementation which all include higher than normal discipline and spending of money.

I do not participate in public competitions. Although, I do compete with myself daily. Therefore I train.

I refer "going to the gym" as training altogether. I am training to drop bodyfat and gain muscle, and steadily make gains. I "train" to fight my genetically limited metabolism and to finally get to the BF% that i will be comfortable at. Lifting weights seems casual to me. Training is more a dedicated term I would use to describe what I do in the gym :artist:

I call it "working out" and refer to certain lifts as "working chest" or "working back". 20 years ago when a workout partner first said to me "I trained chest yesterday" I burst out laughing because it sounded so :rainbow: ......it still does to me!

I hear that shit all the time "I'm training" or "where do you train". And these people are so serious you would think they are training to become The Heavyweight Champion of the World. I also get a good laugh from the ones that say their in the gym to train and therefore cannot talk to anyone. If you are really training for some sort of an event or competition then fine. But if not relax guys and gals, your just lifting weights. Your simply working out to get in better shape.

I do not come to the gym to be social…

I come to TRAIN.. Train for what you ask???
To train in a manner where my muscles will have no other option but to GROW…. I train like my life depends on it!! Know why?? Because someday it might.

Lets use your analogy for my Martial Arts training… I do not go in there and Practice Karate / Aikido/ Kobudo no way… I bust my ass just like I do in the gym.. There is no talking as it is not a social event either. There is discipline involved.. I have discipline coming out my ass!! I train like my life depends on it!! Know why?? Because someday it might.

In the gym I do not have time to entertain the ladies or answer the question “What supplements do you take?” There is work to be done and I aim to get er done!!!

Me personally I call it training. because lifting builds discipline. you stick to a routine in wich is very very hard work and you do your best each time. it builds confidence mentally and physically as well. i also do a boxing workout 2hrs in the morning I call that training but I am training for no event. Its good to do physical exercises for the mind body and soul. hah

Taoiron, I'm not trying to be an ass, but what is it that you do that your life may depend on your workouts.
I have done a lot of work where I definitely had to rely on my size and strength.
I am approached a lot with questions while in the gym. I have no problem talking with people and I always get in a good workout.
I have been to the gyms in Venice many times and met and worked out along side some of the biggest names in bodybuilding. And those guys would actually carry most of the conversation.
The only time I won't talk is in the middle of a set.
It all just boils down to ones personality.
