I call it going to the gym to lift weights. Its a hobby of mine and I am never going to compete. I suppose if I was going to compete ever in my life I might call it training. Just wonder who actual Trains to compete or just goes to the gym and lifts.

If you call it training just to be cool the world needs followers for the rest of us to lead. But if you call it traing cause you are competing we also need leaders like that. Just curious

There's a difference between Training and Weight Training.. Weight Training = Lifting.. Training should be specific to an event or competition.

Not really, I'm training, yet it's with weights, so it is weight training....

My thoughts exactly lots of 145#ers in here that are always TRAINING and I wonder for what the Olympics? They could be set out for that I dont know i just think it is the wrong word to use for some people but not like its cancer or anything I was just curios how many actually are training for a competition verses just lifting for looks. I bet most are just lifters

If you do the Oly lifts I would call it training b/c you are working form as much as pushing maxes.

Now BB's on the other hand are lifting weights.

Now BB's on the other hand are not training - they are manipulating muscle to appear strong while maintaining very little strength. So they are lifting weights.
ibFlames.

I like you.. but 'maintain very little strength?' -- on what planet?

Interesting question bro……

If you are lifting weights would you then describe yourself as a weightlifter???

Personally, I Train……. I train like my MOTHER FU****G life depends on it!
I am competing late in 07, but will do so only one time and whether I compete or not would have no bearing on how I describe myself!

I would (as well as most others) describe myself as a Body Builder… Lifting weights is merely one of the tools I use to sculpt my physique!

My 2ml,

hah <3

I was gonna say.. tell that to Ronnie, Jay, Gunter, jonnie jackson, flex.. they're all madddddddddddddd strong. :)

I'm training to be in shape to play with my kids and eventually play with their kids.
It is not an Olympic Sport but it is my sport.

I had my kids quite late so this is no joke. Even my father was 42 when I was born and he still ended up being my baseball coach. Glad he kept in shape too, he still walks every day and lifts the dumbellls at age 83

ps. I should add that I do compete in martial arts but that's not really why I lift weights.
