Training Board Monthly PR post

bignate73

New member
how about this...

when you hit a new PR this month, post it up. if...(and when) you beat it this month, quote it and post up your new PR. eh, kind of like a training journal but with the highlights.

im pretty proud, hit a 205x1 power clean today. 225 will be mine before the end of the month.

365x5 on low bar back squats a couple days ago. 405 is 2 weeks away.

265x2 flat bench (using a PL'er style bench, thank you spatts for the eye opener) 275+ coming up soon enough. been stuck at 225 forEVER!

so lets hear 'em ladies and gents.

I set PRs just about every week :)

On a layoff at the moment, back in action in 2 weeks time

CoolColJ - Who is hte girl in you Av? You've posted a buch of pics of her in your Av.. she is very pretty.

CoolCol...that's how hannibal, project, and I are. Every week we go up. If we stay at the same weight, it's a bad day.

Good times....good times.

;)

Eurasian girl I know that I have the hots for :)
Her mother is Asian and father is Australian (Caucasian)

Yeah there is something about a girl with mixed parentage that looks so damn fine, exotic :p

For sure, I'd feel depressed if things weren't going up on a regular basis, and I'd do something about it :)

BTW Bignate - that is some good numbers there! Your can PC more than me, but considering the fact you can squat more, the ratio between your PC - Squat is not that great :D

Get working son ;)

Last workout before my 13 day layoff
and what do you know a new PR :)

Jump Hang Snatch - 100lbsx3

2 months ago I dreamt of repping with 100lbs, now I can do it :D

Ehhh now I can use the same weight as female ice figure skaters in this move...:mix:

I'm confident after my layoff, I'll be blowing up the charts!

- Benched 305 a couple weeks ago. I think I posted this before. Oh well.
- Did 2 sets of 8 with 85s on incline db presses this past week

Those are a couple recent ones. I should be able to put up 315 in a few weeks.

275x3
285x1

oh yeah....300 on its way!!!!!

455x1 DL this morning. Abs and back felt plenty stronger however I just couldn't get my hips to rotate 475 up off the floor. I have a brand new weak link to work on.

Well here goes a few of mine: (ps..My body weight is 228)

4 Board Press: 285 + 2 Sets Doubled Minis
3 Board Press: 385
2 Board Press: 365
Floor Press: 315 + Doubled Light Band
Reverse Band Floor Press (Green): 455
Reverse Band Press (Blue): 495

Chain Suspended (41")GM's: 485
Chain Suspended (36")GM's: 315 + 2 Sets Minis(not doubled)
Reverse Band Deadlift (Blue): 600

And yes I know that these numbers point out some obvious weakness in my bench, LOL.. I have only done 2 Board once and should be good for another 25 or so.. I barely missed 405 3 board after the 385 and will nail it next rotation..

(hehehehe, little does Hannibal know I have been secretly guaging my progress by comparing my number to his for the past couple months, ..shhhhhhhhhhh....don't want him to catch on..LOL)

last week

incline
3x8x225

something tells me, my chest wont be an issue next march when the fat is gone!

yaaaay!

:bday: :bday: :bday: :p

Tested all the gym lifts over the last week:

Squat 331
(squat suit and belt: Only got 11 pounds out of the suit, did 320 with just the belt)

Bench 243
(single ply shirt and wrist wraps)

Deadlift 375
(Belt: Missed 397 at the knees)

When I tested my 3 lifts July 6th, they were at 751 total. That's a 198 pound increase in about 9-10 weeks. Alot of that was the addition of the bench shirt and improving my squat stance.

I'm so glad that's working for you. I STILL think it's weird to walk away from bench day with only my left hamstring sore.

Got one more rep on it yesterday. Tried 373 a couple of times, but just could not get it to budge. That's why there's always next time.

with all the pictures you have of her, i'd figure you are either banging her by now, or stalking her. :D

Incline 260 with 20lbs of chain not counted in original weight for 2 reps had the third but needed a little help at the top so it didn't count.... BW at 187....

Just a quick Bump to the top with a New PR on Reverse Blue Band Deads... 4 Weeks ago I pulled a rather struggled 600, and today nailed an easy 635 with a modified Sumo stance and felt like I had another 30 in me, but my left bicep was feeling a little strained so I stopped there... .. Basically just a narrow sumo stance... And I want to give a big thanks to the Asylum crew who turned me on to the 36" Chain Susp GM's.. ...

got a 585 bench 9 wks out from the nationals, and a 725 gm with a cambered bar.

Hey Jdarty responded on the other thread on belts, and I'm in the 275's .

Just thought I'd bring this thread back up

9/20/2002 - Reverse Blue Band Dead - 635 PR (previous best was 600)

9/26/2002 - 3 Board Press - 405 PR (previous best was 385)

New PR on Jump Power Clean from the Hang, bar starts just above the knee.

160lbsx3 reps

Had more in me, but its cool none the less

Next session I'll try 165 :)

another PR yesterday!

Narrow grip Power Snatch from the hang 95x3

Bar starts 1-2 inches from the kneecap
Basicly I use the same grip width as a Power Clean.
Goal is to get to 135 by Christmas. And then 225 sometime next year.

305 on flat today!!!

it moved......SLOOOOOOOOWWWWWWW.

my girlfriend was looking antsy, like i wouldnt get it.

geeeez! no faith i tell ya. hehehe.

275 is getting so easy now. i can get triples with it pretty easy now.

im liking this flat bench business! hehe.

shoulder day is coming up, maybe i'll have to try for a 225 clean for a PR too. i got 205 a few times pretty easily a couple weeks ago. gotta learn those snatches like CCJ does. they sound fun. :D

9/27/02 - 44" Chain Suspended Wide Stance GM - 510 Pounds
First time I went at this height, but my previous best at 46" was 485, so I was happy with the 510 at 44"

had a really good heavy stiff legged deadlift day last friday. i had been stuck at 315 for sets of 5, 5, and then 4 for the past five workouts. friday i pulled 325 for sets of 5, 5, and 5. it felt great, although i have to use straps to get that. i alternate light and heavy weeks for deadlifts and ditch the straps on the light days. last week's light dl day i pulled 235 for 10, 10, and 8 before the grip gave out. this week i'm going for 245 for 10, 10, and 8. this is at 5'10" 177lbs and 10-11% bf with shit for strength.

Nice work man....we are doing those tomorrow, but from 36". My old record is 441X3......hoping for a big PR.

As far as new PR's for me I worked up after speed squats the other day.

Box Squat: 545 X 1 + choked green bands

Benched 315 today, at 180 lbs.

It went ...
135 warmup for 10
225 second warmup for 5
275 for 2

315 for 1. But, my spotter helped me during the end. My fault though. I should have told him not to touch it. Oh well. So, I tried again. After a short break, I went in again, and pushed it up very easily on my own. I tried 325, but I guess I was too fatigued, and it didn't go anywhere. Eh.

AWESOME BRO! thats my next goal too. those elusive 3 wheels on each side. hehehe.

benched 320lbs for 3x5 reps yesterday, couldn't single that a year ago, and on military press today did 240lbs for 3x5 reps. Now my rotator cuff feelsl ike it was hit by a truck though

first time doing hang snatches. got up to sets of 6 with 95. LOL. ah well, you gotta start somewhere. they are weirrrrrd though. when i went and started doing cleans after, i practically threw 135 over my head. it was, again, a hard rack to bring it from my eyes to my chest. ouch!

Today was ME Bench and another PR on Reverse Blue Band Presses..

10/03/02 - 515 Pound PR Previous Record 4 weeks ago was 495 pounds

Took a shot at 525 but didn't stay tight and got a little off balance.. Oh well, I'll take a 20 Pound PR anytime....

not really a PR since its the first time i did them in a long time but

3x5x235 floor presses

fun as heck though, but hard.

benched 325lbs for a set of 5 yesterday, personal best but my rotator cuff is officially cooked, time to drop the weight and go higher rep

I only started deadlifting a few weeks ago, and maxed on deads for the first time this week. I think I warmed up too much, but I ended up with 1x235. I weigh 145.

you need to rehab it and then strengthen it.

good day yesterday. I'm following a 5x5 workout base on the bench, squat, and deadlift. On squat day I also powerclean and I powerered up 235 and could have gone 240. It's funny, I can powerclean 240, yet only squat 300, bench 240, and deadlift 350. Strange proportion indeed.

Well, after seeing your deadlift video from nationals yesterday I was motivated and went to the gym and set a PR for myself..

I just started DLs a couple months ago because of this board, but I did 315 for 6,6,5. Oh, and that slight dizzyness after a set is a good thing right?

my previous pr was 305 for 4. Soon to be at 400!

Congrats man. My deadlift form was horrible on that video...lol...but it was balls to the wall. I wish I had not stumbled on the 2nd rep and I think I would have had the time to get a 16th rep. The 15th one wasn't all that rough...I just ran out of time.

Also, what that video doesn't show is me hugging the guy behind me after the set...or I would have fallen:) Or...me puking a few minutes later...lol

B, you're actually my motivation on the deadlift as well. Everytime I hit a new pr, I come here thinking I'm king of the world, and find that where I added 20lbs to my previous best, you just added 50.....

Same here.. Everytime I come here and read B Folds post and see the pics and videos he put up it just gets me into the mentalilty I need to set new PRs... Thanks B, you've really been a huge inspiration to me since I started WSB training.....

Good Job Skaman... It's safe to say that no one on here will ever laugh at you for what you lift.. Well unless you post a PR Dead of 1200 Pounds, then ya might get a chuckle or two..lol Thats what I love about the guys(and Gals) here...They always step up to offer much needed enouragement and support....

Dude, that's one thing I love about this board. I wish I went to a gym full of all the guys from this board, but none of the usually assholes, jackoffs, no-form-having, no compound exercising guys. We'd be a deiseled up bunch of dead lifting and squatting motherfuckers :fro:

exactly, pr's are all about beating your previous best, not comparing yourself to what others are doing! My best dead is a raw 600, I'm proud of it cuz it was 25lbs better than my previous best, not because of how much weight is on the bar. When skaman puts 25lbs on his best and pulls a 205, then he should be just as proud as I was and get the same support and encouragement that I received!!!

to tady I felt pretty good and got 265lbs 4 times on the ole' incline bench, i might have had another but i wanted to get the form right and not have any help.....

i dont know if u guys particularly give a damn about this lift but.....i cheat curled barbell curled 185 for 1 set of 5. i didnt cheat that much though

This is a PR for me, I never tried a 1 rep max deadlift but I did 225x4reps with no carbs all day. I felt strong even though I didn't eat any carbs, but I worked out in the afternoon if that makes a difference. Either way I got 225 for 4 heh. at 150lb bw.

Today, I squated ass to the floor with no belt, 425lbs for 2 sets of 5 reps. It felt pretty damn heavy but it went. Up until about 3 weeks ago 405 was my record for sets so I'm happy

Excellent work, what does your training look like? 5x5 still?

Not as strong as Needsize yet, but I'm on my way :o

Full Olympic High Bar Squat (shoulder width stance, knees past toes)

235lbs 1x5, 1x3

No belt and rock bottom.
Last rep of 1st set was slow going through the sticking point, most probably a rep or two from failure.

Heaviest weight I've used so far in training :)

looking forward to 3 plates!

Thanks. Actually I've changed the 5x5 into something a little different right now and I'm making some good gains. What I have been doing is 3x5, followed by a drop in weight and a set of 8 reps. Here's an example from last week
squat
420lbs 3x5, 320lbs 1x8,
then I finish up with some higher rep stuff on the hack squat. I've been gaining weight consistently since I started this approach so I'm happy

CoolColJ, good workout, I especially love the "no belt ass to the floor", that's what it's all about bro

Next week I'll move back down to 36" or maybe even lower....

315x3 with red bands tied to the bottom.

got buried under a standard 365 last week so i figured this would be a good way to break that shit.

i'm new to band training but it felt really cool since i tend to be very strong up top and a bitch in the hole.

:D

CoolColJ said:
How's it feel Bignate? Thinking about getting a pair, which ones you get?

i used the ones with handles that most aerobics rooms have. hehehe. the red bands. just double loop it and its pretty good. not like PL'er bands but they worked for that little workout.

Heaviest weights used in training yesterday - none of them to failure

70 degree bent over barbell rows - overhand grip 205lbsx6
185x6 (3 sec pause at the bottom of each rep)

Weighted Shoulder width grip chins on a power rack (partial grip)
+17.5 lbs x6 , +10lbs x 6 (3 sec pause at the bottom of each rep)

Lats, forearms and grip strength are really blowing up from these!
The grip type gives you way stronger lat contraction.

CoolColJ said:

the grip is practically like an "L" shaped grip. neat huh. it really forces you to drive your elbows down instead of pulling with your biceps. i know i know! :)

Busy workout today, distracted by vids I had to make... but I still got some PRs :)

see here for movies

http://www.elitefitness.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=181985

Clean Pull 225x1

PowerClean 205x1 - dropped the first attempt, made the 2nd, but stumbled a bit, dropped the third :)
I normally don't bend my legs this much to rack the bar, so I was very wobbly

Pretty good considering I front squat with this weight, and my back squat is not much more!

Full Olympic High Bar Squat (shoulder width stance, knees past toes)

240lbs 1x4

No belt and rock bottom. Felt heavy as hell though, fatigued by Power Clean and clean pull 1 Rep max attempts and jumping deadlifts.
Last rep of 1st set was slow going through the sticking point, most probably a rep or two from failure.

335x5

felt nice. traps and lower back are already screaming at me. shooting for 345 next week. weight is currently at 179lbs.

little ole me, trying to catch up to you guys..

last night, I did military DB press with the 75s easily for 2x6 reps. Also, did arnold presses with 65s. Our sucke gym is missing an 80, or I would have gone for that too, so next I have to jump to 85.

Been a pretty good week for me with new PRs for deads (325) and DB Flat bench (100's).

Ahhh yes, keeping me on my toes as always.... Looks like I've got some more work to do (as always) ... Unfortunatly the guys I workout with (errrr get spots from basically) don't follow WSB so I have to find competition and motivation from somewhere.... Didn't think you would mind bro ;)

600 huh? Damn thats some heavy stuff.. Excellent job... Well in my defense (actually just to make me feel better) I only weigh 230 :lmao: ehhhh, i know..excuses excuses

Believe me, I was in no way bragging. I expected to go much higher than that. First time I tried the 574 I missed and thought I had ripped my right lower ab off. Had to take a long break. Put on a belt and made the 574 X 3 ..then missed 620...came back and made the 600.

And believe me I know all about finding motivation wherever you can.

Amen there Hannibal.. I need all the motivation I can get to keep me focused... Hopefully one day I will find 1 or more training partners using or willing to convert to WSB who are stronger than me and can really push me to new levels...

I've actually never thought about using a belt on GM's.. I have a similiar problem at times, feeling like I'm gonna tear an ab on these... I actually did suffer a small ab tear a few months back doing Deads.. Thanks for mentioning that, I'll try using a belt on my final set of GM's next ME day and see how it goes...

Peace Bro

(Previous Best was 315 w/ 1 Set of Choked Minis)

10/10/02 - 4 Board Press with Doubled Light Bands - 295 Pounds

10/17/02 - Floor Press with Doubled Light Bands and Doubled Minis - 295 Pounds (and a near miss with 315)

I must say that this kinda band tension is really tough.. I'm in the process of slowly increasing the band tension used on all my ME work Except for Reverse Blue Band and 3 Board Press... That way I at least have 2 constants by which to measure my progress.. I am now Rotating my ME Bench Movements like this:

Week 1 - 4 Board Press with Bands
Week 2 - Floor Press with Bands
Week 3 - 2 Board Press with Bands
Week 4 - 3 Board Press (No Bands)
Week 5 - Reverse Blue Band Press

My last Rotation I used Doubled Light Bands.. This Rotation I am using Doubled Light Bands plus 1 Set of Doubled Minis.

ME bench day for me. i did the equivalent of a 2 board press by using the pins in the power rack as my bottom position.

PR for me

305
yaaaay!

missed a 315 though.
everything up to 305 was gravy though. didnt move slow until the 305 which actually stopped at one point.

good day all in all though.

:D

heh tried to do hanging leg raises using a towel and boy was it hard - chins seem much easier for some reason! :)

Leg strength continues to climb!
High volume high intensity session today, olympic lifts, lots of squat/RDL complexing with plyos and ballistic stuff

High Bar Full Olympic Back Squats (rock bottom)
245lbs 2x4

The 1st set felt so easy, I thought I'd do another at the same weight, big mistake!
last rep of the 2nd set was ass slow at the sticking point, My body started to shift the weight onto the right leg. That tells me my left side is much weaker. I think I need to start working the left with some single leg squats

220lbs 1x4 Paused Set - 3 sec pause at the bottom

Romanian Deadlifts
1x6 190lbs
