Training ABs

I once heard that abs and calves are the only body parts you can train every day.

Anyways I hav efound lately that when I hit my abs really hard they are sore for a good three to four days afterwards. They are like legs in that regard.

So if anything I end up doing one hard day and when my next slated training day for abs comes around I end up doing AR. My designated ab days are Tuesdays and Fridays.

How sore do you guys get?

BTW I use the ab wheelie thing, I have not found anything mroe effective.

i get sore from abs whenever i come back to an exercise i havent done in a while. like the landmine, that thing kicked my ass last week, it felt so good.

I don't do abs. You can't spot-reduce, and I don't want them any bigger.

I figure mostly they just act to stabilize during compound movements, ie static with little motion. Due to specificity I just let them get some static work with the rest of my routine.

My abs used to get kinda sore when I worked them. They grew too quick though so I stopped.

I don’t know, I cant help thinking that relying on stabilisation only for ab work is asking for trouble in some individuals who are prone to back problems, We all work our lower backs hard and directly with Dead’s, Squat’s, Gm’s etc. and you are asking for a muscular imbalance and shortened lower back muscles, potential leading to a misalignment of the hips, if you ignore the opposing muscle group.

I’m not saying you have to hit abs hard all the time, but to permanently neglect them cant be right.

My pennies worth… :)

I'm gonna have to agree with the fat one on this.

Technically, squats, deads, and gm's are all just stabilization work for the erectors anyway.

But I see what you're saying. I may do some ab work later... but if I do it will be static stuff to address their almost entirely static role in performance.
