Trainer Frustrations

Hi Everyone...

I'm experiencing a lot of frustrations with trainers. Most of the BB'ing trainers in my area are guys.

All they want to ever do is keep me on low calories (off season). I can neither gain muscle nor lose body fat on 1500-1600 calories. Not enough calories to gain, and low enough calories to cause me to hit starvation mode. I know that you can't gain muscle and lose fat (unless you are really new, or on gear), but being able to do one or the other would be nice...

I have been doing this for a while now (4 years or so), and have found that in order to lose fat, I have to get about 2000 per day, and carb cycle up to 2400-2500 every few days. By doing this, I will feel great and lose body fat at a good pace (not too fast, but fast enough to keep me motivated...).

But yet, why do my trainers continue to argue with results? Over time, you come to know your body and what works... why won't they take this into consideration?

Thanks for letting me vent... This ever happen to you??

I have been pretty lucky with coaches, my first one just pointed me in the right direction and I figured out a lot on my own.

I learned a lot from my coach this year, put on a lot of muscle, but like you, there were one or two little things that I knew I should have done or modified.

In all honesty, if your trainer thinks that 1500-1600 kcals is acceptable for off season, they are a retard.

Frack me, I diet on more calories than that.

Dump them.

You are so right! some trainers assume that all women respond the same to what they learned at school.

sounds like you already know what to do. ditch this trainer if he's being so stuck up and thinks he def knows better than you! go solo and try what you feel is right or get a new trainer.

Everyone is different and we all react differently to different diets and calories. For me personally 2000 calories is a lot, and although I'm small framed, I need 150-200g carbs. Conversely, there are people who are carb sensitive, therefore they need to eat less carbs. If what you need is 2000 calories, then that's what you should have. Thankfully, you know your body well..

:) Thanks all.... I guess I kind of had a feeling that I was on the right track on my own all along.

I just needed to hear it from other muscular girls! As a matter of fact, I upped those calories and I feel so GOOD! Plus, the weight is dropping and I just feel trimmer somehow.

I was dieting down for a show last June, but my old trainer stalled me me out on 1200 calories and no fats... just protein and veg. Plus, close to 2 hours of cardio per day, plus lifting and practicing my routine. My fat loss just stopped dead... his solution was to cut cals and up cardio. That's when zI pulled out from the show and dropped him. I was so hoping that this new trainer would be more open minded and work WITH me towards my goals.

Thanks ladies... I'm taking more control of my own destiny!

My fat loss stalls on really low fat diets as well.

There is a thread in the women's section on metabolic damage, which is related to trainers doing ridiculous things like massively low calories with huge amounts of cardio.

They really don't understand basic human physiology if they think that starvation will work.

You may also find another thread on the Minnesota Starvation study interesting as well.

Sorry to use this thread!
Tatyana, is there a way we can direct women to a thread about the importance of eating carbs? Some people are convinced they CAN'T eat carbs and I suspect the reason is because they most likely eat pasta, bread and simple carbs. They don't want to hear that carbs actually boosts your metabolism and gives you energy.

I thought!
