Do it all the time, I'll start with one (usually Bi's) and then switch to the other muscle. It's a push pull kind of workout. -john

All the time.. 80% of my arm workouts are bis and tris together. I actually seem to get better results when i do them together.
My theory is that the bloodflow is all in the same area.. better pumps.. grows better for me.

Hard to tell, because the pump is much greater when doing them together but does this really mean more growth? Well in my opinion as long as the got sore then you fine. If you have trouble achieving soreness with this method then i would say try splitting them up.

your right on one thing.. a great pump doesn't necessarily mean your gonna get better growth..

but no pump does not mean that either.. i forget the technical term but i would say that it was "tearing muscle fibers" is all you have to do to grow.

either way i would say a pump is a better sign that your gonna grow

p.s. i grow ALOT better when i do them together

i agree with your bloodflow theory.BTW i got 241 posts and not a single star?

i think you need 300...

to get there simply reply to posts you don't need to reply too..

Yes that is it. You have to basically induce micro trauma to the fiber. Fancy word for tearing the muscle fibers through the eccentric movement. That is why in my post i brought up the soreness part. Soreness is a really important indicator of growth.

For example, my chest gets sore no matter what i do. And it grows like a weed even with only pushups. Now my arms are a different story, they are really hard to get sore and hence do not want to grow. They pump easily but dont get sore. But when they do, by alternating routines every week they grow at a rate similar to my chest. It's all about micro fractures in the muscle fibers, and not the ammount of weight lifted, sets performed etc..Intensity and variety are key.

You also need to consider that sometimes pumps can get in the way of reaching muscle failure.

I'm the same as you gwl9dta4. My chest grows at a very fast rate as well as my back. In fact some weeks, I skip back training altogether. If I want my arms to grow, I have to train Chest and Back at maintenance.

Hey!! thats exactly why i cant get a good biceps workout,i hit "failure" too early, even if they weight is extremely light,it pisses me off,got any ideas how to reduce pumps?

Well dont reduce pumps. But if you reach failure even with light weights too early then you need to break through the pain barrier. Try this: instead of counting reps decide to keep the muscle under stress for a specified period of time. With a stopwatch set the timer for 60 seconds and keeps repping till the timer runs out. Of the pain becomes extremly difficult then perform rest-pause reps till you get to the time limit. Also try half reps or the classic 21.

I always do bi's and tri's together. In fact, I do them in compound sets...one set bi's, one set tri's, one set bi's, one set tri's, etc etc.

I use to train them together, now I train tri's with shoulders and chest, and I train bi's with back. The arm pump was better before but they have grown more with the new system. Their getting more recuperation time now, and you grow while your recuperating. Just my opinion.

u wanna see blood pump. try supersetting bis and tris. this is what i usually do for arms, one set for tris super set with a set of bis. i do about 4 excersises for each muscle, 4 sets a piece.

I train them together just because i find it hard to do like chest/tri's or even back/bi's or vice versa by the time i do a major body part i have nothing left. i'm spent, and i personaly believe it's just two much, my bi's are pumped from back and tri's from chest i think it's over training doing bi's or tri's with chest or back. I do chest/back/legs/sholders,traps/tri's,bi's and 2 days rest taken according to when i can, i find this way gives everything a good chance to recuperate, but this is just what works for me, to each his own

Here's my full workout. I've tried supersetting, insane pumps, chest/Bis, back/tris, training arms together...

The ONLY thing that really worked for me(Arms are my worst bodypart) is this split.

AM-Chest

PM-

Tris: Tricep pushdowns: 4 sets: 1 warm-up, 10reps, 8reps, 6 reps

Seated French press(Ez curl bar): 2 sets: 8 reps, 6 reps

Dips: 1 set: 10 reps

AM-Back

Bis: Close grip preacher curl:4 sets: 1 warm-up, 8reps, 6reps, 5 reps

Alternating dumbell curl: 2 sets: 6 reps, 6 reps

Overhead Cable Curl: 1 set: 10 reps

Forearms: Unrack the heaviest weight you can and old for as long as you can: 2-3 sets.

Did Forearms, bi's, and tri's yesterday. I love the feeling of sore arms, or sore muscles for that matter.

Re: doesn't anybody do push one day, pull on another anymore?

I like to do;
Push (chest, tris, front delts)
Pull (back, side and rear delts, traps, bis)
Legs

I used to do that. I would do upper-body pull and lower body push, one day. Then the next day I would do upper-body push and lower body pull.

Example:

Monday: Cleans, weighted pull-ups, Front-squats, Barbell rows, Leg extensions

Tuesday: Dumbell Snatches, weighted push-ups, hamstring curls, military press, Stiff-legged deadlifts

BTW, that was then...now I do bi's and tri's on the same day.

Yes,
Tri's first, then bi's, the fucking pump is incredible, especially if you push it and I grow from the pump!

Working chest and tri's together works best for me. My main reaon for this is because I like doing heavy dips which benefit both tri's and chest. Besides I like the pump from the chest tri workout, looks good in the mirror.

This thread is 8 years old, lol

i have a bicep, tricep, and side delt day. i keep the weight low enough to hit 10+ reps each time, with controled complete reps. and i superset everything. almost like a cardio/arm pump day.

mostly just for fun, but i dont train arms heavy because they get so much stimulus from my core lifts

I do them on the same day
bis -
barbell curls (wide grip)
EZ bar curls (close gtip)
Alternating dumbell curls
Hammer curls

tris-
Overhead tri extention
Skull crushers
cable tr extention
tri pushdown
reverse tri pulldown

for the first set i do a drop set then 2 normal sets

I usually do bi's & tri's same workout, because my other upper body days are chest/lats, and delts only. I don't do well trying to do tri's and chest, because of it being hard to impossible to isolate tri's out of anything that works the pecs.

we had a thread about this you should dig up not long ago.

for me since I do pulling and pushing splits different days naturally I work out bi's and tri's different days.

there are plenty of people who work them both the same workout though.. just depends on what kind of splits you put together or some people do cross training or circuit training and hit a bunch of muscle groups the same time.

so there is not right or wrong answer.. just depends on your strategy.

I rarely do it anymore because of recurring elbow pain. But when I did it was an awesome pump. My biceps were at their biggest and strongest. Getting old stinks.

I always did bi/back and delts/tri/chest but now I'll try to do tri/bi on one day and the rest on others. I defiantly think it's worth trying, and what works for you may not work for others.

I have done bis and tris on same day with great success ..only thing is pick one that u wanna work harder and do that one first or switch it up do a bi workout then a tri workout ..your arms get burnt quick

Good point. Bigger muscle groups don't burn but I get fatiuged by the end. For bis/tris I'll probably do one set of each and switch back and forth.

I like this method. Works for me. Once every few weeks I will split them up...

Bustin' my ass so I can save yours...

I get better growth when they get hit on the same day! I have been doing them for the last couple of months that way and noticed those pups gettin bigger....ha

I prefer doing them on separate days. I do tri's on chest day. Bi's and other exercises incorporating bi's on their own day.

Good idea about the pump but what works for me is a larger muscle group with a smaller (ex. Chest/tri, back/bis) or (chest/bis, back, tri).

You do chest/tri'S on monday, back/bi's on wednesday and then saturday is the "gun show" inbetween cardio. And legs with thursday as A rest day..

I superset bis and tris every week for arms day. On back and chest days they get worked to. It's a double whammy. But I like a dedicated body part days. That way I can kill em
