Tough being a parent sometimes

My daughter came in this morning and begged me to get her a cat. This was out of the blue, she's never asked for one b4. I had to tell her no because she has a rabbit and doesn't clean up after it I have to clean up and feed it. Plus it's a 250$ deposit for the cat. She starts whining, crying and saying that she doesn't want to live with me then. So I feel like shit, even though I shouldn't.

Start packing her bags. I bet she shuts up quick.

My brother had that happen with his 2 girls. After MONTHS of them begging, He made them sign a contract stating they will walk the dog, feed the dog etc. They finally got one.

He made it into a big deal, Not a last minute little thing you buy at the checkout in the convenience store. lol

How old is your daughter?

btw 250 bucks for a cat is a ripoff.

often peoples cats give birth and they will be looking for owners for healthy sweet kittens for free.

She has to damn well look after it though. Cant you make her? think of some punishment if you end up having to do it?

maybe its too late now tho. if she nagged and you told no, and then you give in, your teaching her to nag.

As a man, you will realise the pain your bringing upon the next generation of men by teaching your daughter to nag

Cats are easier to clean up after then rabbits. 250 is a rip off though. I got my cat for free b/c some guy my dad worked with was giving them away. He was flee ridden, and mangy looking. Got him to a vet, cleaned up, and he's been healthy for the past 18 years; however, his age is starting to cause health problems.

Don't feel bad. If she can't take care of the pet she already has, she has no business getting another one. Besides, it's the first time she's ever asked for a cat. Next week she might ask for a puppy. Hold off for awhile. Give her time to demonstrate responsibility for her rabbit. I had to beg several years for a horse.

Is she 12 yet ?
Wait till she learns "ALL" the tricks...

I'm such a Puss, Mrs Y is usually the Strict one..

she probably wants a specific type of cat... i got two together, scottish folds, cost me 800 bucks and they weren't even spayed/neutered (which i had to do b/c they were indoor cats and brother and sister... i didn't need stupid inbreed cats that walk sideways or anything... but i digress)...

make her save her allowance for the cat if she wants it so bad...

Kid's are good at finding the weak streaks in their parent's. Thye'll work you til you bleed too!

Stand your ground!!! " No" means "No". As soon as kids know this word it'll make your life easier!

Can you tell I'm the enforcer in this household?!

Kids think that if they cry, pout, and pitch temper tantrums, Mom and Dad will give in. I used to do it all the time when I was little. It's a totally different thing though when kids are using these tricks on me. THe kids I work with try stuff like this all the time. If I didn't keep in mind taht these particular kids make the Children of the Corn look like angels, it might work. When I have kids of my own, I'm curious to see how I react.

No means no, you are there to be her parent and teacher not her best friend.

At least cats use litter boxes, but they still require the deposit and all that.

Giving in to attitude or whining is not helping your children.

Well, I'd bring her to the pound and teach her that unwanted animals are killed just because someone didn't care enough to care for their pet.

Make her understand that if she doesn't take care of her pet that is where he/she would end up and that she would have to live with that for the rest of her life.

Oh, and if you choose to get her one - ADOPT - a kitty and save the life of an unwanted animal, it will build character.
