Top 3 over rated bands

Okay, this is nuts. Those bands didn't just "become popular", they completely changed music. I don't particularly like U2, but I recognize the influence they had on the music industry. I also don't particularly like Nirvana, they're okay, but they had an obviously powerful influence on the music industry.

Led Zeppelin (along with Ozzy/Black Sabbath) CREATED AN ENTIRE GENRE OF MUSIC. So they get removed from that list, period.

The Beatles released so many classic songs that they have become a part of culture for anyone growing up in the 60s, 70s and the 80s. They get removed also.

I disagree with the U2/Nirvana selection, but I can accept arguments.

In no way, shape or form can I accept Led Zeppelin or the Beatles being on this list of "overrated". You simply cannot overrate the best.

Metallica basically pioneered and created a very strong niche within a genre (the "thrash" metal genre within heavy metal, which was created by Led Zeppelin and Ozzy). Master of Puppets was their last awesome album. Their next 2 were good and okay. After that, meh.

Someone said System of a Down. Again, you may not *like* the music, but credit them with having a 100% original sound. They obviously have talent (Even if they use it in rather bizarre ways). Besides, SOAD is not all that popular, are they?

as for Celine Dion vs. Britney Spears, Celine at least has a good voice. Britney has shitty music and a shitty voice.

and whomever said the Eagles were overrated is just nuts!

They didn't plan to change the music, it's just a thing that happened. It doesn't make them special. They didn't declare they're gonna change the music when they put out their first album. It would have happen with some other band if there never would have been those bands.

But even though those bands changed the music industry, who's to say they changed it for better? Nirvana sure didn't. Beatles did but same music 10 years later would still have been good, but it would have not had the same affect to music industry. To change music industry, it's more about good timing and luck. Right time at the right place in history. Artists are overrated when they're ranked higher than they should based on their actual music and musical talent.

not necessarily. it all takes a catalyst. Out of the most popular "grunge bands", I would probably rank Nirvana 3rd behind Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains. If you hate grunge, then you probably think that they are overrated, and understandably so.

well, that is so completely subjective as to render such a discussion pointless. I don't like pop music, I like faster music. But I recognize that the Beatles released tons of classic songs. I am not exactly a U2 fan, but they had original music and consistently drove themselves to release something new or interesting, rather than just re-hashing old stuff.

I guess the question now becomes is, "whose ranking system are we using"?

What is Nirvana "ranked"? What is Metallica "ranked"? What is Led Zeppelin "ranked"?

When they were current, Led Zep were hated by "the critics".
The critics never dropped acid then. Like trance/ Hardhouse is for (but not only) X users. Makes sense to me if they hated LZ, cause I did till I was talking to the moon when "Dazed and Confused" came on...then I understood.

Cant believe people cant get Led Zeps influence was major. Critics are just individuals, like us, meaning they are as full of shit as us. who the fuck believes critics anyway?

Dirty Sanchez to critics.

Coldplay

I can't get all the hype them

U2 was good back in the "Sunday Bloody Sunday" time, but now they suck.

Britney Spears always has so many special effects on her voice in songs because SHE CANT SING, but I don't anyone ever rated her high, so it is hard to argue that she is overrated...lol.

I think REM used to be good, but they sort of suck now.

Ditto for Rod Stewart! He was so cool in the 70's when he sang "Hot Legs" etc. Now he puts out BULLSHIT covers!
