Top 3 over rated bands

why don't you add david bowie to your list and really remove any doubt that you're retarded and know nothing. lol - j/k

arguing about music is as stupid as arguing about what the "best" color is. can't argue taste.

50 cent

The rolling stones - The Rolling Stones a/k/a The Pseudo-Kings of Rock & Roll. A group that really should have quit earlier.

Velvet underground

Radiohead - Kid A is great, but I can't see what the Bends / OK Computer hype is about. Hail to the Thief was even a terrible return to their miserable old days.

U2 - Certainly one of the bands that should have quit already.

Joy Division

The Smashing Pumpkins

The White Stripes - Haven't heard a single great tune from them.

Queens of the Stone Age

Pearl Jam

The Doors *I cannot stress this one enough (Most of the Doors' content was made of Jim's ego trip, with some artsy-fartsy added. Not the band that changed the world, you see...

Kiss - Play Detroit Rock City and Rock'n'Roll All Nite once again and I will seriously hurt someone.

Guns n' Roses - Guns N' Roses are often praised for being a 'true rock N' roll band.' Thinking that way one forgets most of their music is actually the typical '80s hard N' heavy crap.

The Beatles - They weren't God! They were just four kids who were both talented and surrounded by the perfect mix of influences.

Monkees

Kid Rock

Puff Daddy

Any and all boy bands

Joy division....What did they do? Tell me, what did they ever do? Isn't it only the death of the singer and one song (Love Will Tear Us Apart)? Plus New Order, but it is a different band.

And for the Vlelvet Underground, AKA The fathers and a mother of the blacklips. Did they really do a great job for the psychedelic hippie culture? Some fine songs like Candy Says, but that is not enough when the band is to blame for a zillion 'gloomy' and 'evil' crap bands and records.

methinks you're confusing not liking a certain genre of music for being overrated.

dullboy can make a very effective argument that joy divison was the foundation of the entire british edm movement and rave music culture.

long live the hacienda~!

eagles created a new sound and the fact that every member had a successful solo career says a lot about the talent level for the band.

Every member? Tell me about Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon's successful solo careers? That's half of the original lineup. Or the replacement guy, Don "Where is he now" Felder? There were only two successful solo careers spun off from The Eagles - Henley and Frey - and one guy, Joe Walsh, who had a solo career before joining.

They didn't create a new sound, either. The Byrds, Flying Burrito Brothers, Gram Parsons, those are the people who created the country-rock sound that The Eagles exploited.

Sounds like a disporpotionate number of british bands are on the list, we don't get the 'hype' about them so much over here so I can only guess this is because of a huge advertising/magazine campaign about the in the states? Bands like Coldplay and Radiohead are obviosuly very popular over here but not exactly 'hyped' so from a british poi9nt of view it's hard to call them overrated. If they're aggresively marketed over the pond them I guess I can see where you're coming from.

PS. the Beatles should never be on a list like this, quite simply the greatest band ever (ooh thats subjetive), spanning so many genres of music it's impossible to rate the best too highly...you simply rate them as the best.

you're arguing backwards. lol

henley and frey created the sound that defines the eagles. they're talented songwriters.

maybe you just don't like the eagles. that's ok. you're entilted to your own taste. but it's silly to say that they're overrated just because you don't like them.

No, I'm disputing your point that "all the members had successful solo careers", or that they pioneered anything.

They jumped the shark at "One Of These Nights". Prior to that they were a very good little country-rock band. But they couldn't compete with Disco, so they took the path of "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" and became overtly, calculatedly commercial.

I can't decide if The Doors are overrated or not. Morrison was a horrible singer, who would have been kicked out of any other band. And most of his "poetry" is hopelessly puerile. The musicians all sounded like some sort of Holiday Inn Lounge act, they were so lightweight they didn't even have a bass player. Yet the combination of elements kind of worked. Almost. Sometimes.
