Too much noise

New member
Well yesterday I was doing some deadlifts and some girl at the gym said, "Making a bit of noise over there aren't ya?" It felt great having someone tell me that I was making a racket at that funeral home of a gym.

Deadlifts are quit fun when there is no plaftorm to do them on and your just dropping the weight on the ground. I was also grunting a bit to get the weight up on the last 3 sets.....felt great though to know that I was pusing myself.

Anyone else ever been told to effectively "keep it down"?

I have been told that if I didnt stop making noise while doing deads that I would be banned from the gym.

People don't say shit when I make noise. Once I was doing heavy leg press and I had gas, so I kept farting the last few reps. Even then nobody said anything.

was the girl hot?

One of the ladies who trains people at my gym.. which is supposedely "hard core" came up to me about 6 months ago when I was doing rack deads, and told me to put the bar down lighter because I was going to bend the pins...
Stupid Bitch made me drop them harder..

Yea, this chick was hot, in fact an incrediably tight body.

And, Backlash, I might make it to the gym Sat for Deads, just might :D

Oh yea.. A little over a year ago some punk motherfucker told me I had scared the shit out of him slamming the weights during deadlifts. I cleared out the whole fucking leg room real fast after that. He looked at me, and I yelled "Is there a fucking problem!!!!!!" seeing red and shit, and everyone just left. hahahahahaha

No need to be a jerk WB. Making enemies doesn't get you anything.

BTW - this noise - is it grunting noises or the sound of the weights hitting the ground? I make a lot of noise with the sound of the weights on the floor, but usually don't grunt until the last set, which happens reflexivly.

tonight i was doing deadlifts and this jackass thats a regular walked by with his partner and didnt say it to me, but said it loud enought that i heard it.

"man........... im sure glad those plates are made of steel"

i was a better man and didnt say anything, but my first reaction was......... no shit sherlock......... im glad you understand the concept of "weights" something which he never lifts a lot of...

X

The 'jackass' is probably incorrect - those plates are, in all probability, made of iron, not steel. They have similar densities, but iron is much cheaper and you aren't likely slamming it hard enough to need the additional strength of steel.

So you should have turned around and said 'hey dumbass, it's made of iron.'

Yeah when i did squats a this week...when i turned around it seemed like everyone was looking at me...one guy on the team came up to me and is like 'what was all the yelling all about, it sounded like someone broke their leg'

I am like 'it was me'
lol

There is and always be noise. . if they don't like it. . they can leave at any time.
Exactly

The couple times I have been asked to keep it down, I made it a point to load my plates as hard as possible and yell during each rep.

The dude was looking for a problem. Fucking coming up to me before sets and making growling sounds, saying add more weight on the bar, doing his little shadow boxing shit.

that would have beenIT I probably would have reacted worse than you bro, what a tool he is

I don't know if you do this..but there are morons in my gym whom I would consider to be making too much "noise"
These are the moron who would pick up heavy dumbell, and damn well know they won't be able to handle it. Well they pick that shit up, do 3-6 reps and drop them like they were droping pennies in a pond or something. I hate to break it to you buddy, but those weights are expensive and they do BREAK!

Yhea these are the same fuckers who talk really loud for 5-10 min, jump around like a bunch of kids on crack waving obscene gestures in the air only god knows what, they the go about droping some more weights.

The whole point of weight lifting is to control them, not to drop them. That means you need to be control them while bring them up and when BRINGING THEM DOWN. When deadlifting, I don't mind people people grunting, because thats a natural reaction, which I am guilty of too. But I find it really annoying when they just fucking drop 400+ lbs of weights, guess thinking it would make them seem hardcore or something. When you drop weights it only shows your weakness and nothing else.

Hmmm there...my little rant is over...I feel much better now:)

Don't work out around Ronnie Coleman then. :)

What a piece of work.

Ah, but the deadlift isn't supposed to have any eccentric part of the lift - only the concentric. So you're not supposed to lower it slowly. Hopefully you are on a padded deadlift platform though.

I hate people who make excessive noise, there was a perma-tanned Gary Busey lookalike at my old 24hr fitness who made more damn noise than anyone I've had the misfortune to listen to. It was embarassing to be around as he threw dumbells around, screamed on every rep and yelled shit like 'whos the man??' at the top of his lungs. Don't be that guy.

Cool thing about training at home is you can be as much of an ass as you want.

I don't make a lot of noise at the gym, but I also don't get bothered by most noises at the gym either. The lone exception is if someone throws the db's they are using on the floor.
