Why is it scary for those in Alberta? Explain more please! I am very ignorant of Canadian politics.

It stems from Justin's father, who was our PM back in the 80's and created the National Energy Program. This basically took money from the wealthy provinces to give to the other provinces....Alberta has always been wealthy because of the oil. Creates a separation of east/ west. The east has much higher population, too, which gives them greater representation in Parliament. They had already called the election on tv last night before the polls even closed on the west coast.

Do you live in Alberta? If not, what part of the country are you in?

Seems like those policies are good, you don't want half of the country living like kings and the others poor, we are experiencing the same thing in the US and its not good.

Is it true that in the East they speak French, not English? Do all canadians learn French or just some? Do they all learn English or just some?

So the new guy in office scares you? Did you prefer the conservative dude who was out of his mind when it came to marijuana?

I'm originally from Toronto, which is East, but have been in Alberta on and off since I was 5 and back here for 20 years.

In the Province of Quebec, they speak French first. Not very nice to English people, unless you are in English parts of the cities, for example. There are other French parts across the country but mostly in Quebec. We all have to take French in school. I can speak enough to get by if I need it.

I guess the policy sounds good but Alberta has always had to give and yet, we have very little influence in the country. We've had thousands of Easterners come out to work, use our resources, crowd everything, drive up the cost of living and then leave when the price of oil drops.

I could go on and on.....lol It'll be interesting to see how things change or if they change!
