To those who have been prescribed BTG Ox and had insurance pay for it...

My Dr. Specializes in dealing w/ AIDS patients and often prescribes Oxandrin and Cyp to prevent wasting in his patients...because such a large % of his patients have a valid medical need, I am assuming that this Dr. is able to get away with the occasional script w/o raising an eyebrow...how do I know...all I know is I'm getting it and insurance is covering it w/ a $20 co-pay

I go with compounded ox and my insurance does pay for it. So far for me, the doc has done nothing but write the rx. Pharmacy submits and insurance covers. I do have to pay upfront with this pharmacy, then I get reimbursed 80%. I think its all about what insurance co you have & whether they cover that drug or not.

Sorry, but you are way off. Doctors are not given absolute discretion over whether a patients medications are paid for.

How'd you do it? The insurance part, that is...

good points jibby. i am an insurance man and sell many lines including blue cross. i may call them today to see what they say about this. i think you may be right on some of these points. i stand corrected and informed.

again to htyngswnger. so your doctor has OTHER AIDS patients so feels it is fine to prescribe BTG to his OTHER patients if they ask for them? please. would he also write a prescription for oxycontin because he has OTHER cancer patients?

blue cross and onehealthplan / greatwest cover it without question.

i have about 14 bottles to prove it.

(no i'm not a source and no i ain't giving those bottles to anyone and don't ask me where i got the script :) )

I think it just varies from insurance to insurance and then from individual plan to individual plan. BCBS PPO is probably pretty good about not denying meds... these companies just have to have a way to protect themselves.

I just got on Humana.com and my plan, which I should be on in a month or so, will not cover BTG Ox. It would cover Serostim or Nutropin, but requires "prior authorization" and I would still be out 25%, which equates to near what I could get it for on the street.

You fucker... is this through an employer, or is it your private insurance?

greatwest from former employer, bluecross private. it'd be cheaper for u to get bc insurance and then get the ox w/ copay than order the same amount from a source unless it's ip or some shit like that.
