Tipping at the salon

For people who get their butter whipped at the salon, not hair cuttery or fantabulous sam's - what % do you tip the stylist and the shampoo officianado?

for the past two year (first time in my life) i have been getting regular haircuts/highlights at a higher quality salon.

probably every 6-8 weeks i get my haircut and highlights and the bill just for that is $190. then i always get product when Im there so usually the bill is around $200-$225 depending.
I have usually given $50 tip to my stylist (love him!) and a $10 -$20 tip to the shampoo person. they give the fucking best scalp and neck massages ever.
so today I gave my stylist a $60 tip and $15 to the shampoo girl. I just dont know what other people tip (what % of total bill) so I'm curious if i should be going more or less or if i'm pretty much on target?

Gee, you are high maintenance chica! I used to go to a salon and get highlights and a cut for $150- $200. I would tip my stylist $30 or so. There was no seperate shampoo gal.

I'm about as far from high maintenance as you can imagine lol
But since I decided to chop off all my hair, I told my husband that I will be getting regular haircuts and highlights to keep it looking nice and I will not go to Hair Cuttery or some other place like that. WHen my hair was long, I got a haircut about once per year or 1.5 yrs and i would go anywhere I didnt care.

I generally tip 20-25% and $5 to the shampoo girl. My cuts are pretty simple...just a trim and layering just around the face/long bangs. No coloring. I tip them a little better if they do everything I ask with cutting the least amount of hair off. I have a thing about keeping my hair really long.

well the shit costs $200 that's a 25% tip to the stylist. Is 25% outrageous? i thought i heard somewhere that 30% is expected at a hair salon which is why I asked, i really dont know what they are expecting to be tipped

lol i take my son to hair cuttery and for his $10 cut I give $5 tip loll

Five star spas I've been to expect a 20% gratuity and one generally will add it automatically. I usually do more. There's no way in heck I am gonna tip the person who cuts my hair more than the person who works a months worth of tension out of my back.

Holy fack that is a good tip most I think ever is like $20 to hair dresser and $5 to the shamoo person.

I asked my girlfriend...she said you're over tipping

15% flat

that's it

bitch gets a base salary

why the hell would you pay her that much, you're getting raped.

stop wasting your money

buy your hubby or your kid some fun shit

You already ruined it by tipping that much, now they expect it.

Your hair stylist, is a hair stylst...that's his fucking job

if he sucks at it, then fuck 'em, twice. You shouldn't be wasting money like that.

With the money she saved it would be possible for her to purchase some skateboard wheels for her son in no time.

That would buy a lot of skateboard wheels.

You cheating on me? :worried: ....

The girl who does my hair is AMAZING... great cuts/color/style. I tip her 20% because it is THAT HARD to find someone who can do my hair properly. Curly hair is a bitch if the stylist is clueless.

But I've been too depressed to leave the house and invest time/effort into getting my hair done for months... :(

I will try to get my ass out there next week.

If you feel comfortable tipping 15%, then that is acceptable. I tip the 20 because I am THAT HAPPY with my stylist. That is just me because it is so hard to find someone to do it all the right way.

Ok moneybags. Christ I wonder what they charge in Beverly Hills for all the celebrities.
"Like, your total n stuff today will be $6,450"
"Ooh, not bad! Here's a ten (thousand)!"
"Thanks! Now I can buy those shoes I've always wanted, yay!"

Long hair is calling you, it wants your head back. :)

Now I understand why companies target market wiminz. :worried: Now I understand how the hair cutter girl can afford to drive a BMW.

LOL... I buzz mine every weekend. Only haircut that I've ever really liked since I cut off the greasy long hair from thinking I was a tough guy biker and got a real job 27 years ago.
