Time for new goals...

b fold the truth

Elite Strongman
Platinum
Did any of you reach your goals that you posted a few months back on here? Here is the thread...maybe I'll bump it too.
http://boards.elitefitness.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=154715&highlight=goals

C'mon...post your old goals and if you accomplished them...then make a 2nd post and post your NEW ones!!!

"2-3 weeks: Have my new routine planned out for Nationals (October 5th). All injuries healed. "
.....check...did that.

"6-8 weeks: Weigh 275-282, be working on my cardio and endurance events. Get a 500-600 pound earth mover tire to work on speed and technique only. Strengthen my abs, hips, neck and calves. Break down my technique on every core exercise and event and improve it with lighter weights. Increase total body flexibility. "
.....check...did that. Need a little more flexibility work though.

"2-3 months: Spend August 11th through October 5th hitting my events hard. Weigh 280-285. Cardio (light) 3x per weeks. Hit all events on Sunday's and the ones I have the most problems with again on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Strengthen my triceps, overhead press, quads, calves, and sprinting endurance. "
.....worked on that. Did most all of it except for the cardio 3x per week. I did include a medley in my training every week.

"October 5th: North America's Strongest Man contest. Weigh 287-293. Win the 300 pound weight class. Place top 3 in the Overall. "
.....errrrrrggggghhhhh.....didn't quite do that. Got bad sick and placed 5th.

"3-6 months: Strengthen my entire body, bringing up all of my core lifts and major event weights. Preparing to compete in 2 pro contest in 2003 and try to qualify for the Pro Nationals July 2003. "
.....Yep...getting stronger from head to toe. Earned my Pro card and am preparing for a pro contest as soon as I can get a solid sponsor lined up.

"1 Year: Qualify for the Pro Nationals. Weigh 295-300. Log Press 345 for a single. Bench Press 485 raw, squat 700 raw, deadlift 700 raw."
.....Not sure if I will be able to qualify this year. They are having contest problems and I do not have a sponsor...YET. I have deadlifted a raw 702 and my flat bench feels pretty solid...my overhead press has increased A LOT!

"3-5 Years: Be a top 10 ranked pro and qualify for the World's Strongest Man contest. Weigh 300-320."
.....still in the works;)

gettinlarger, lemur , needsize, Advaik, Lumbuss, Mdguy, CoolColJ, benchmonster, vinylgroover, WannaBPowerful, bignate73, highschoolsucksalot, strong island, HulkRow, nikkita, I'D RATHER BE DEADLIFTING , Robert Jan, DrBones, bishonen... TIME TO SEE IF YOU REACHED YOUR GOALS!!!

6-8 weeks: Maintain a bodyweight of 285+ or possibly reach 295 at one point. Do cardio at least once a week (playing soccer right now for 1-2 hours off and on on Friday's). Strengthen abs, triceps, quads, and explosiveness.

3-6 months: Continue to increase my base strength, technique on events, and using heavier weights on ALL events.

1 Year: Qualify for the Pro Nationals by being a top 20 ranked Pro in the US.

3-5 Years: Be a top 10 ranked pro and qualify for the World's Strongest Man contest. Weigh 300-320.

Here are the exact goals that I have set to accomlish either by the end of May 2003 or the beginning of August 2003.

Jeez... I forgot about that thread... then when you reminded me, I thought it was from november or someting.. lol...

From JULY...
I'm currently 5'10 and weigh roughly 180 with approx 10.5% BF.
I'm totally natural... although the dark side has almost pulled me in a couple times and is always sitting in the back of my mind.
I have a few problems for instance,
my rotator cuffs are quite irritable , and I had been making great progress healing them until 2 weeks ago I had a few drinks and thought arm wrestling was a good idea. So they are resting around 85% right now.. they've already healed significantly, but Im guessing a few more weeks before they feel really good again.

Short Term Goals (before september)
-Have body fat down to roughly 8%.
-Stregthen rotator cuffs so that I don't have any pain
-Learn to sleep on my back
-Dead Lift 300 x 5

1 year goals (July 2003)
Weigh 185 with less than 10% BF
Deadlift 400+
Squat 400+
Dumbell press 110's without shoulder pain
17" Arms

2 year goals (July 2004)
190lbs+ with less than 10% BF
18" arms+
Be injury free

My goals have slightly changed... but I will go over my short term goals for now

Short Term Goals (before september)
-Have body fat down to roughly 8%.

Never wound up happening, decided to bulk in mid august instead... didnt see too much point in being lean when its cold

-Stregthen rotator cuffs so that I don't have any pain
Check, done, shoulders are feeling a billion times better, and I'm able to bench and do all sorts of fun things i wasnt able to do before

-Learn to sleep on my back
Kind of learned, my sleeps are a lot better these days..

-Dead Lift 300 x 5

I didnt have it done by september, but im pretty sure I could do it now... I'm doing 5 sets of 5 with 335 on rack deads... havn't full ROM deadlifted in a few months so I'm not too sure

Now time to make some new goals

MY new goals

Chest:46"
Waist:34"
Calves:15 3/4"

Short term goals, 3-4 months (june 2003)
Once again, I'm starting a cutting phase, want to get down to roughly 10% BF with a very slow pace, as I dont want to lose too much muscle, and I'd like for my strength to continue to rise
A lot of my goals are strength related now, versus size.... as I feel my size will come with my strength. I'm focusing on strength in core movements... Heres what I'd like to be pushing/pulling by june.

Squat:315 for 5x5 Currently at 250 5x5
Incline Bench Press 225 5x5 Currently at 190 5x5

Those are my strength goals, hopefully I can continue to get stronger while cutting... I think it will just be a slower process...

Need to find a training partner able to keep up with me.

Basically change my whole training philosophy from get bigger to get stronger.

Take care
Pete

I've been reading this training forum for as long as I can remember, so I decided its time to register and start posting, especially when a thread like this pops up :)

I decide what I want to achieve, then I write it down in my training journal and decide how I'm going to achieve it.

Here's my goal setting training journal entry from 22/2/03:

22/2/03, 165lbs

Goal Setting:
1. Get as lean as possible.
2. Maintain (and if possible, gain) current level of muscle.
3. Continue to strengthen core and adductors to prevent recurrence of injury.
4. Improve 5-a-side soccer conditioning.

How I will achieve each goal:
1. Eat for performance. Bust my gut in the gym. Commit to high intensity cardio. Never give up.
2. Don't starve myself. Keep getting stronger and pushing the weights higher.
3. Consistent core and abdominal work. Adductor/abductor exercises. Sports-specific agility drills. Flexibility - stretch!
4. All of the above - weights, high intensity cardio, core/groin rehab work, agility drills, flexibility, performance orientated diet.

Weekly goals (by 1/3/03):
1. Stick to workout schedule as planned.
2. Eat for performance.
3. Stretching routine, 15 minutes post-workout.
4. Rehab workout 3 times/week, post high intensity cardio.

Each week I write down 4 goals I'll attempt to achieve in the next seven days, all of which have my longer term, main goals in mind. When I achieve my major goals, I find new ones. There is always something left to achieve.
