this 'unemployed' thing

ELITE MENTOR

sure is keeping me busy.
I workout, shop, go out to lunch (there's a farmers market that sells food made from all the fruits and veggies they sell- its awesome), hike, paint, and play with my dog.

i'm exhausted.

Wierd isn't it? You find ways to fill your time and it almost seems as structured as work!

yeah, i feel guilty if i sleep too late. I'm remodeling my house, so i wake up, have breakfast, shower, maybe run to the market if i need to, and start work on the house till lunchtime, then go out.
my evening, i'm exhausted.

I retired a couple of years ago and at first, it just felt like every day was a Saturday. Then, things like the gym, projects around the house, and small business projects started filling the gaps. Eventually it was almost as busy as work, but 90% of it was stuff I wanted to do.

I think the key to enjoying retirement/unemployment is structuring the time, because otherwise it does start getting wasted. Speaking of wasted, I need to get the hell off this board and get back to "work" :)

I tend to waste a lot of time. Right now my gym clothes are in the washer. I fill my time with stuff around the house, gym and gardening, but I waste too much time on here. I have been on here less lately, though.

I haven't been wasting time at all, but I could see how that could happen.
My favorite thing to do is home remodeling, so i'm busy doing a lot of that. Today I'm going to change a vanity in a bathroom and start doing some furniture stripping later.

that's exactly what i'm doing.
I'm still making money, so i have to spend about 30 minutes a week doing some work, but other than that, its fun stuff (even bills are fun now).

ive been waiting for a call from work that may never come so lately ive been doing the lazy unemployed guy thing, mostly hanging out with my irlfriend and her baby since shes off on maternity leave.

however I did get sick of waiting and went and had an interview for some seasonal work here at the ferrero factory, just gonna do this until that phone call to go comes in.

I love my career but I hate the slow times and the waiting game.

I remodeled our bedroom and did some other things around here, but he is tearing down this house in two years, so it feels like a waste of money to do anything to this one. =-( It needs lots of work, but I just live with it, for now.

I read constantly, and I watch lots of movies at night.

please leave the neighborhood kids out of it....thanks.

the days I don't work or travel, I make sure I schedule a mega-nap sometimes.

I've been unemployed for quite some time and dont intend to go back to work until I am done with school. Fuck work... I used to get up at 3:30 in the morning to be at work by 5AM for 8$ per hour. I was never late and never missed a day. Half the time I had four kids in tow.

Unfortunately a lot of my time is spent with pursuits that are less than pleasurable. C'est la vie.

I really do have to finish unpacking, getting some new furniture tomorrow.

Cant wait to go shopping for furnishings with my girls. It will be SO NEAT for us to finally have a nice place that is all our own. Will take time, how much I've no idea but every day that is spent the way we are now brings us that much closer to the day when we will have peace.

Smokey this is not 'Nam this is bowling, there are rules!

My first two weeks of being unemployed were mostly spent catching up on sleep. Working 3,000 plus hours per year had taken it's toll. Then I passed time doing work for my parents (cutting down trees, cleaning the garden, etc.). I also got back into a regular gym routine and now am going to be working part time doing contract work. We'll see how it goes.

Cheers,
Scotsman

There are all sorts of government programs to help, my family helps, I train a few peeps little here and there, paltry unemployment, and, of course, if a generous man wants to help out, I say thank you and accept. I am also working on helping out other women with fitness and diet who are leaving abusive relationships and will see if the art department at school is looking to hire models.

Not sure. Will start in September. Was origionally going to pursue nursing but my therapist suggested something combining my artistic abilities, educating children and perhaps getting some sort of degree in social work or psychology or some such. Maybe help kids and women with abuse in their past work through issues with art therapy. Maybe just a straight up school art teacher. Not sure yet. I'll do like I have done with everything else in life - just figure it out as I go along. :)

I modeled for the art departments when I was in undergrad. Sometimes the students will give you the pieces. Some are really talented! I liked that job.

Well I am an experienced model and have an above average physique. I miss modeling so it will be fun. Wont earn a ton of money but the hourly rates are usually fairly decent and as I said I am not really hurting for money, though we dont live in the lap of luxury. I have a ton of debt but we have a much nicer place that I will furnish nicely as time goes on and we have a great new car. I am just working on getting our lives in better order while the old storm rages on.

God, I hope you get that over some time soon. That has been going on way too long.

I havent been allowed to see my children for near 3 months now... The 4th time in three years.

I console my children by telling them that we are just being made to be prepared for something that is bigger than we are now.

Thank GOD DYFUS is finally realizing that my children are at the very least being emotionally abused and praise him that FINALLY they are looking where the abuse is being perpetrated. The same judge has refused 3 DYFUS worker's requests to give me visitation without giving a reason.

Everyone is amazed that I still wake up and smile every day. The anti-depressants and anti-anxiety meds are helping. I have a few close friends. My family has been by my side the whole time.

Worse than not being able to smell my children's hair or to feel their soft skin is being forced to watch them drown standing their helplessly.

Tomorrow will be better.

who has custody of the kids right now? Is the reason that you don't have custody is because the government didnt think you could provide for them?

Their father - you know, the one that is perpetrating all of the abuse.

My family and I and anyone connected to me is nearly completely cut off from my children. My oldest daughter is TOTALLY alienated from me - beginning to fail, running the streets with boys dressed like a two dollar streetwalker - very violent and abusive towards me and her sisters. She is the sweetest child on the planet, was straight A student in my care and would never dream of behaving as who the system and her hate-filled inept father have allowed her to become.

On the surface - yes. I was working part-time and receiving childsupport (the judge imputed fulltime work hours to me even though I was only working parttime so it changed the numbers to give me more income so that gave me less childsupport. My ex also withheld his corporate returns and did a few other things to artificially reduce his income for purposes of childsupport calculations - proven in court - judge didnt care) and STILL eligible for food stamps. God bless America. Even though I have consistently made about 16K and my ex well over 100K I was getting 143$ in childsupport for FOUR KIDS, no work-related childcare money. Our rent was over $900.

My ex has made false allegations 4 times in 3 years. All 4 times the courts take custody from me, investigate me out the wazoo, find that I am fit ALL ALLEGATIONS ARE BOGUS and I get it back until my ex finds a new lie to perpetrate. My children are used as pawns and we all sink into greater despair.

I know of SEVERAL women who have lived in this sort of hell and have even met adult children who grew up like this. It happens more often than anyone realizes.

I don't mind the unemployed life time to time. It gives me some time to spend with the kids and catch up on some sleep. Plus I get a lot more done around the house. Plus collecting free money from unemployment is alwas good.

Actually I went back to work monday and alreadt miss the unemployed life:(
