Things to do in New Orleans????

Hi :wavey: Im usually a lurker not a poster ....trying to change that.

I know this is crazy since I live in Baton Rouge, LA, but I was wondering if someone lived in, or goes to New Orleans alot that could give me ideas of fun things to do, besides the obvious BOURBON ST. I am going there for the weekend and would like some ideas. :dance2:

I'm looking for nice places to dine etc... not really the wild party thing.

Jaque-Imo's on Oak St. is awsome...There's a nice place on Tchoupitoulas I think it's Tony's, it's next door to the Wine Loft, so you can eat and go have a drink right after diner...I also love Eleven-79 (1179 Annunciation St.) those are more dressy places, nice...

For more casual, you might try Bravo's on St. Charles.

Make sure to check out Magazine Street too, lots of cool place to shop, and a great shusi place: Sake Cafe.

Cafe Degas is great for lunch and of course don't leave without going to Camelia Grill for a big nasty grease burger, it's the best ever :chomp:

Hope that helps you out a bit...

I live in BR too but I'm from New Orleans and usually here on weekends. Port of Call on Esplanade is always perfect for a GOOD burger and a few drinks.
Definitely second Jaque-Imo's.
This weekend is also White Linen Night on Julia Street which is always a good time.

go to magazine street and royal street...you can do some good shopping here..

make sure you hit up a restaurant called "The Gumbo Shop" for lunch one day..its on St. Peter street, i believe...get the Cajun Shrimp Poboy..its the best thing you'll ever eat...

and i know you said you didnt wanna do the bourbon street thing,,but you still gotta be sure to go to Acme Oyster Bar and Pat Obriens at least once while youre there..

Ralph and Kackoos(spelling?) is a really good restaraunt, but I can't remember what street it's on. The corner oyster bar, across from Cafe Dumonde' is pretty good as well, but it's more of a sports/casual place rather than fine dining. There is another seafood restaraunt but I can't think of the name of it. It's on a corner I think on the same road maybe as Virgin Records.......anyway you should be able to find it.

UPDATE:

ok, ok I said I wasn't going to do the Bourbon thing....BUT OH MUH god it was FUN ;) I went to Pat O'brien's-the hurricane's were awesome. I believe we went a half a dozen others on Bourbon. We stayed at the Ritz Carlton even though we didn't go back to the room until 6a.m. It was a blast  Thanks for the suggestions.
