that happened not for from my hometown, one girl was at work and dropped her kids off at her sister's (the other girl) . The sister then leaves the kids (infants up to a 10yr old) around 9, to go the local bar to "get hamburgers" when she makes it back to the trailer, which, btw - had no utilities - they were using candles for lighting- at 2:30 AM it has burned down.
A newspaper report during the indictment said that the same girl had been in a nearby town a few months earlier with a car load of kids when the car breaks down. She then leaves the car - with the kids still in it during the middle of the day in Mississippi during the summer- for a couple of hours to go find someone who could give them a ride. Needless to say the cops where waiting there with the kids and ticketed her for neglect or endangerment.
And these girls are not ghetto - but extremely rural.
What's even crazier is that people in the town where it happened where saying that the girl had suffered enough and there was no reason for her to go to trial! WTF.
I have lived in Mississippi my whole life - but here lately I am having a hard time with some of the population. I am starting to make generalizations about people that I am not too proud of. I dont know.
