IMO you need to work on the time it takes between unracking and your first rep. For injurys sake it is safer to take one step and plunge away - I know you compete w/ Monolifts, but still.

Yes it does become less weight that's the point, more weight at the top. Why do you use that thing to hold onto the bar?
 
I've never used chains and don't intend to, but I don't understand why you'd want to lighten the load in the bottom. IOW, what's the point of squatting 185 out of the hole?

Im prettty sure thats why they do box squats as well?
