the State of the Union address is fun to watch

I don't think its ignorance as much as a dislike for the pres and trying to assign blame.
Ignorance? If you only knew bro.

Actually I don't dislike Bush, I wouldn't mind watching a speech. Bush is not running the show one little bit. It is the BUshbarians. I get tired of typing that out and just say Bush.

OK, profit margin is bad choice of words. Don't you still talk about take home vs gross income? Same thing. I mean it doesn't matter that you draw $90 an hour if your expenses are $80. That doesn't tell me anything, that's why I asked about profit.

You felt it necessary to bring up how much you make so I'm am just trying to understand, being naive and all.
I always use as few words as possible here. Hence the $$/hour talk.

"Profit" is a pretty grey word in my opinion. One thing I will not do in my spare time is talk and think about taxes.

I will say that our tax code is designed to encourage a small business though. As long as you play within the rules.

Lawyers for example are notorious for living well yet zeroing their income. Doctors have to be more careful, I think tax collectors like to collect medical scalps as trophies. Legal scalps are prolly too much trouble...I'm not sure really.

I've wondered about this before. So if I go into business after I leave the army, I might live in a nice home, drive nice cars, have a lot of disposable income and investments, but as far as the IRS is concerned, losing money every year.

In theory........ perhaps.

In reality, I strongly suggest that you show a profit after a while and pay some taxes. Depends on your type of business though. They know that a mnaufacturing concern will take a long time to turn a profit vs a service company............generally speaking.

I have had years that I went out of my to show a profit and pay taxes and it was hard because of all of the write offs. I have ignored write offs and still had too many.

It pretty well needs to be that way to encourage business because it is a royal pain in the ass at times. We get used and abused......a lot. That is why I have to work part time to stay happy.

If you have a business, you defintely want to do business with businesses. Many consumers are a friggin' nightmare. Seriously.

Business owners will treat you like gold. Their employees will treat you like crap.

I turned it off right after they showed Hillary Clinton's snobby ass face. Thats the same face she wore last time!!!

Actually you have 3 years from the start of a small business venture to show a profit if by that time you haven't shown one then you go under the Hobby Income rules and lose all those deductions you took the previous 3 years.
