The reason we don't have nuclear power in the US

YouTube - mletdown at 3 mile island

Homer Simpsons character comes from this as well. (his job atleast)
I wasn't alive when this happened, and most of you were too young to remember. I don't expect many of you to find this interesting, but I did.

Interesting link. Thanks.

My father is an engineer for the Southern Company, and they operate 4 nuclear reactors here in Georgia. Just those four nuclear reactors actually provide a little over one-quarter of the electricity for the entire state. Georgia doesn't have the water features for viable hydro-electric and is a poor wind corrider for wind turbine plants, so it's either coal fired or nuke here, and even the cleanest coal is dirty.

The video is right about no new plants being ordered since Three Mile though. The COL's granted for Hatch and Vogle were done before the Three-Mile partial melt.

i'm no tree-hugger but, isn't that still a carbon-based fuel? so, it only addresses one of the two most pressing issues (independence and pollution), no??
I'm fine with carbon-based fuel, but I just don't like things that run out! If you stick to renewables, the carbon they extract from the atmosphere to grow is balanced-out by carbon released when they are burned.
