The True Intellectuals Of Elite.

These posts are so stupid i wont even respond, esspecially the first one.

Any ways, i think Silverbackn said it best, sports progress, all sports. so thats why its hard to compare generations. one could look at hockey and say before it was all about skill, agility, speed, coordination. now days its all about who hits the hardest, and fights the most and who gives the others the worst injuries. so one cant really compare, me being a younger guy or maybe i just like freaks, enjoy the bbers of today. the main reason i guess is because i want to see humans reach peaks they never reached before, i want to look at a bber and say "i can NEVER do that, no matter how hard i try", but when i look at old bbers i say "i can do that, it will be hard, but it is doable". so i guess thats why i like new bbers.

Apparently you don't watch much hockey eh? :) I disagree with that comment but I do agree that todays bodybuilders are far from losers and calling them such.....I'm embaressed for the author. However, I prefer the older body styles because it has the appearance of the best a human body can be. WHile gear was obviously used back then, it is nothing at all like it is today and the older BB's still resembled humans. The bodies today while impressive in size and the dedication level, they are grotesque in their appearance. They are moving away from a human shape, to alien of sorts. The beauty is leaving the sport and the freak is replacing it in my opinion. I am beyond impressed at how they can transform their bodies thru chemicals and very hard work, but I'm also impressed by a really bad car wreck on the freeway...niether is a good thing and yet I can't turn my head. :)

Arnold was the man and all BUT I'll take Mike Mentzer as my #1.
Pro BB today is an "extreme sport" they have gone too far with the size, GH and tan. The sport and shows are not more popular today than 10 years ago...the sport is not growing.

let's see some pics of Arnold in his prime...

i too prefer the older look over the new guys, but this is the natural, or UN-natural progression of sport / competition...

noone can get that big without putting in the time or the work... it doesn't come "easy" for anyone...

i always thought Shawn Ray had a killer body...

i was more into the complete package, than just mass...

I dont know what you mean bro? you saying sports havent changed from what they used to be? any ways, bros this is a never ending debate. because we are no longer talking about right or wrong, we are talking about preference. i prefer ronnie. someone else prefers arnold. there is no way we can say who was better. because the criteria that we judge bodies by are totaly different. anyways, just wanted to talk about the whole waist thing. from what im reading some of you guys are mistaking waist width with gut distension. arnold did not have a small waist, it was pretty wide, but he did have no gut distension. ronnie has a small waist, but he has a gut distention. if ronnie was to lose the gut, his waist would be small. waist width depends on your genes, ronnie by nature is a symetrical guy, more symetrical than arnold, but the gut makes it look as if he has a big waist, thats not the case. look at gunter, to me his body (if he didnt use gh and slin and igf) resembles arnolds.

Its seems that the pro bodybuilders of yesteryear were more physically fit than alot of guys today who can barely walk a flight of steps without being winded. Alot of bodybuilders road thier bikes to the gym like arnold or tom platz, almost all of them worked out insane hours and so forth, maybe my assuption is wrong, but it just seems as though they were healthier and more physically fit.

How can anyone call what has happened with bodybuilding, progression? Guys are dying left and right. A lot of them need kidney transplants and have other problems as well.

And there has been no progress made in making the sport more popular, or getting more money for the 'athletes'. Lee Haney's last Olympia he won $120,000. Up until 04, Ronnie was getting $110,000. Only the past two years has he gotten $120,000. Shouldn't it have gone up by now?! What about lack of coverage? In the 80's and very early 90's espn would broadcast these shows. Now you might be able to catch the O or Arnold on Payperview.

Bodybuilding was a closet sport when it started. The guys were laughed at and got no respect at all. They fought hard to get their voice heard. They earned the respect over years of work. It wasn't until Pumping Iron that people really saw that bodybuilders weren't a bunch of freaks. Then came the fitness explosion. Now just about everyone has been to a gym at least once in their life. But the bodybuilders lost the respect, and went from being viewed as role models of what hard work can do, to what taking this, this and that can do. Jay Cutler said in an interview that he gets laughed at when he goes out. You have some kids on the boards thinking if they got huge like Ronnie they will have respect. I guess there goes that idea.

Bodybuilding is dying. AMI buying out most of the Weider empire pretty much sealed the deal on that. They will suck whatever money they can out of it, and then leave it for dead. There needs to be a big change, and fast. I doubt it will happen though, but let's keep our eye's on the mags to see who's dying next or needs a new kidney.

hey bro
in my opinion when the word progression was used here it was just meant that it evolved into something else, meaning that it progressed towards larger more freaky looking bodies....i dont think progression in that sense can be deemed good or bad, just that it changed and i dont think you cant agree with that.....peace
