I had always done facepulls on a cable row machine, pulling the rope in a horizonal plane.

Last workout I did face pulls off of lat pulldown machine, at approximately 45 degree angle. A totally different feel! Hit my entire upper back!

not really abs.

i hook the rope up to the top of the lat pulldown machine. then i step back about 4 - 5 feet, and lean back slightly and pull them back while spreading the rope apart.

They definetely hit abs. You try to stabilize yourself with the weight pulling your back, and it forces you to keep your abs tight :)

uhhh,.......... the weight is pulling you forward....... this requires low back strength????

Yea, sorry about that. I was talking from a perspective of a pulldown machine, meaning it pulls you back towards itself. I have to really keep my abs tight as to not lose my balance.

I love these man.
Especially if you concentrate on contracting your rear delts, you can really feel it hitting them well.

Is there a difference to where to pull the rope to if doing them from the high or low pulley?

I do them from all angles. I use bands mostly...but will pull from low, waist, shoulders, and above my head...love them.

I pull from above my head and from the ground. (Pulley machine.)

B-Fold turned me onto pulling from the ground. Before that, I had always pulled from above my head. They both seem to hit my rear delts and upper back a little differently.
