The Last Samuri- bad.

I don't know who said this movie was good.

It was cheesy and over dramatized.

I don't think i've ever seen a movie with so many "dramatic face close-ups" or men crying in my life.

i saw it a couple days ago. i thought it was ok but not the best movie i've ever seen in my life. the scene towards the end after the howitzers take them all out was pretty good. plus it had ninjas in it. hard to go wrong with ninjas.

Samurai Jack = great.

i agree the ending was way over dramatized

but over all i liked it ALOT!

but i study japan and ninjitsu
and i hate the fact "civilization" has made our entire race a bunch of fat bags of shit so soft and weak... but yet we pick up a gun and think we are more.

fucken faggets

learn to fight

That must’ve been torture. The Last 15 Bucks (you’ll spend on a cruise movie.) I don’t know why people can’t see that it sucks from the previews. Every time I see the previews I laugh. He looks like such a dork trying to act all serious with that scruffy beard and those close-ups of his stupid serious looks he gives. I don’t believe him in that part for one second.

The movie was good, IMO.

It was about the ending of one era and the beginning of a new one.

Many feel that the japanese culture started a nose dive with the introduction of all things western.

It's a movie with that gay white guy. He's in Japan for some reason.

Anyone who actually paid to see it should be banned. Right now.

I had two free passes to the "Premiere Theater"

Nice when you can drink a brew whilst watching your movie.

The best thing about this movie was the interesting facial hair that most of the main characters were rocking.

It was also a pretty accurate representation of Buddhism in Japan.

this is the reason i liked it.

not the gay white guy with the gay close ups....

other then cruze the movie was very authentic

i heard this movie did not do so great at the box office for a tom cruise movie. i stay away from all of his movies because he gets on my nerves.

i gotta admit he was kind of cool in his early movies when he was in his 20s. he did not make the transition well from a boy to a man. i cannot take him seriously.

Actually, one of my buddies is in the Army and he was bitching about the lack of realisim. He was mostly pissed about the cannons...something about how they would have been ranged before the battle, so all the near misses were just creative storytelling. Also, cannon balls didn't explode on impact. They acted kinda like large bullets and would pass though (and disembowel) large numbers of infantry before falling to the ground.

Anyway, I thought the moive sucked. Some of the scenes were direct copiess of other and better films. Bad acting. Bad script. Annoying white people. Blah. The head samurai dude and the ninjas were cool, but that's it.

Your buddy needs to take a look at this link; http://www.civilwarartillery.com

1. The period of the Last Samurai was well after the US Civil War. Exploding shells were widely used throughout the US Civil war.

2. The cannon were likely smooth bore, I didn't really get a look at them but it was probable they would have been model 1857 Napoleonic Guns. Even with ranging a smooth bore is likely to suffer from a miss and the quality of the crew is very important.

Broly... not just ninjas..... but muh-fuckin NINJAS vs SAMURI !!!!!
Thats almost as good as Alien vs Predator.

It was a good flick, but after Tommy boy cheated death for the 500th time I began to lose interest.

Batman Vs. Spiderman

Worst undercard ever.

You wouldnt be able to tell the difference between that and two rival frat drunks going at it.

I can't stand Tom Cruise! He is the biggest brat on the planet. I wish he had stayed in England where it is so much safer than here!

Just saw it.

I thought the movie was great.

Honor, pride, and the birth of a new era.

i agree.....

but, this is a meathead board, i wouldn't expect anyone to recognize symbolism, metaphor, and the underlying themes of the movie......it's all about things that go boom here, and how real it looks.....

it was the dialogue for me, most of all....ive seen it 3X. the intensity of the samuri leader was second to none, extremely powerful IMO.

I liked the movie too, just so long as you are able to block tom cruise out of it

They couldve used anyone else and it would have been better and saved a big fat 20 million $ contract

exactly!....for me Ken Watanabe was the star, great acting, loved his intensity.....and that Taka, wow what a beauty!

So that movie is too intellectual for us?

lol @ the bump from 120 B.C.

I liked the movie until the DVD player started having a seizure and paused every 2 seconds right at the end.. :smash:

It was indeed one of the worse movie ever.

Samurais used rifles and howitzers like civilized nations did. Just old models. The last charge wasn't so heroic. In fact, there was no last charge.

wow a thread from the distance past! speaking of tom cruise it is interesting how we are starting to sort of like him again after the backlash he recieved after his divorce with nicole kidman.

has anyone seen the trailer for War of the Worlds directed by steven spielberg? this movie looks incredible and will be the big blockbuster this summer. tom should be back on top by then since he is the star.

hey, who cares if it was historically correct or not, I liked it. I agree about the close-ups, but other than that, the action was great

I liked it very much, don't know what all the hate is about. Still, I'd rather watch the old TV miniseries Shogun.
