There have been some studies on the subject of cousins mating and whether or not it would actually make a signifigant increase in the chance of genetic abnormalities. I don't have a copy of the study in front of me but read about it in my university's newspaper. It stated that offspring produced by two first cousins had about a 1% increase in the chance of genetic abnormalities. Assuming that is correct then there should be no problem with a second cousin. It is only "sick" in that it is frowned upon by society but there really is no basis for the stygma it has.
