The future is gonna be much different...

I think technology is a double edged sword. On one hand there are many possibilities that can aid us in communication, entertainment and convenience, etc. However, it can bite us in the ass as well. These nanomachines and supercomputers are a good example of this. This technology could lead to controlling and manipulating humans.

Anyone ever see those movies that deal with super computers with advanced or human like AI's that suddenly decides to go apeshit and wipe out humanity? It's a movie, but it's also a legitimate perspective.
I agree totally, and thats the thing... that I was prejudiced against in reading his arguments, however, he basically wraps it up like this... our own line of thinking is so self based, for example subject/object us/them self/other, so when it comes to machines... it is human/vs machine... insstead we can understand it as intelligence as the center piece, specifically intelligence is the driving force behind evolution and as our biological bodies -which he argues are more or less machines- merge with human created nonbiological technology.... we are developing our destiny through technology... its no longer man vs machine... but more like intelligence driving evolution through us.... the only differences were based on prejudices based on past thinking that defines humans, and humanity as strictly biological beings... the outward wrappings... I'm not sure if I"m communicating his argument correctly, Shogun, but I find it very persuasive and you know me -antediluvian- -outdated- esoteric text lover that I am, was not really a futuristic technology kind of bro, however, his shit makes sense...
However, I also find it hard to digest because, it also makes us a little to God like, so I have my own problems on discerning whether this is really the evolutionary path that he claims it is.

ariel is so clever i think he is a robot
LOL at me being clever, trust me you got the upper track on me when it comes to where I was at your stage of the game, but yeah your k message is interesting cause like some A I experts think the internet will be the very first technological thing that sort of becomes conscious of itself, through connections becoming nodes and billions of thoughts coarsing through it, it learns to label things and give names to objects... again this is way out there and way over my head... technology is so not my field, hell this thread originated from a paper over technology and economic trends, but it is scary, however, that said, I'm new to online culture, this was my first board, came here to do research on tren for a third cycle, now find myself hooked on communicating thoughts with other peeps, basically saying what started out as a random small thing now has totally changed my own culture and habits and such, moreover, next week gonna go out on first internet started date, so this is all new to me... point is yeah, I agree with your K take, what starts out small has huge exponential effects that can be awesome yet dangerous if we are unaware.
So hard to be aware too with so much shit going on...

That is very intriguing Ariel, that intelligence driving evolution where man merges with machine could be scoped as a step towards our inevitable destiny. Since we created or adapted to technology, it is part of our way of advancement does make sense. Although at the same time, I believe that anything can be rationalized. Time will tell, eh brotha?

I think as well you're going to see internet addiction become a legitimate disease, especially as virtual reality becomes more detailed and better controlled.

People already lose jobs and families over World of Warcraft and Everquest. Second Life also creates problems for wives and husbands that want to check out of the real world. Imagine if you could link into the net and have full on sex with physical stimulation. Some people would never leave their houses.

great fucking post... identity and internet are becoming more intertwined everyday...
so true...
okay, funny thing is this constant stimulus is what feeds our cultural adhd, I mean who can really sit stil and now wait more than 15 minutes here without being antsy... just sayin...
postsynaptic dopamine due to electomagnetic stimulation is powerful stuff if you wanna look at i through biological mechanism
plain termininology though, what is not gonna be addictive in future... gonna be a weird thing in generating original creativity when peeps are trapped in habitual patterns...
I know I am...

interesting that the end result is complete immersion into virtual reality. i guess as a species we have concluded that getting whatever you want = happiness. doubtful, though i suppose people will still find a system with which to evaluate their lives so they can at least mantain their sanity.
