The Darkness

If I've said it once, I've said it 100 times: This is the best Rock N' Roll Band since Nirvana. I won't rest until I've converted everyone here to The Darkness from that street-thug hip-hop SHIT that all you kids listen to these days. :verygood: Anyhow, DL these songs for starters:

1. Love is only a Feeling
2. Black Shuck
3. Friday Night

All those are on the new Album "Permission to Land".

My favorite Darkness jam though is "Growing on Me", which isn't on that album. You can find them all at Bearshare.

I'm betting the band would prefer if people paid for their music though.

You can't get that song in the USA. But I take your point. You can buy "Permission to Land" if you want. Whatever darlin'. :mix:

That what people were saying about The Spice Girls a few years ago, too...

He did compare them to Nirvana. That should tell us something.

Obviously one of those hip-hop listening toughs I referred to earlier. God I hate that jungle-bunny shit!!!

I know. I'm not saying they didn't. I was trying to make a point that stating The Darkness as being "the best band since Nirvana" ... well ... that ain't saying much.

Ok bro. To make you happy..they are the best band since Menudo.

The best song is quite clearly, Holding My Own.

I like them, they're are fun and it's good stuff just to kick back to.

I like em..took a few listens to get over initial shock of the singer but once you get it...it's really good. Brings back good time non thinking arena rock.

Nirvana were mediocre musicians.

Oh, I get it now.

You're the reason that someone decided to combine the words "dumb" and "fuck," to craft a more appropriate label for a person.

Dumbfuck. Burn your unoriginal, uninspired, effortless metal albums and develop something called "taste."

very talented guys... but a bit overhyped, I'm getting tired of hearing about them. I'll be backstage at their Henry Fonda Theater show... hopefully they're as funny as their video.

Assface, listen to them. Cobain was your average guitarist. Grohl didn't do anything spectalur on the skins. It was mediocre music. I'm not saying I don't like them. I do listen to the band. I'm simply saying that musically, they were not geniuses.

Christ. You people need to relax.

Since when has Nirvana been defined by their technical prowess on their instruments? Cobain still invented some of the catchiest riffs in history. More complicated simply does not equal "better." Many of those prog-rock and metal bands have incredibly complicated feats of technical wizardry, and sound like total shit.

There are alot of Bands who aren't known for their ability as great musicians, who still made some KILLER music. A few that come to mind:

1. THE BEATLES-a duh-great writing, but not exactly the best musicians ever. Just ask Ringo.
2. The Rolling Stones.
3. U2.
4. The Velvet Undeground-although Lou Reed was a gifted song writer.
5. Motley Crue: First two albums are 2 of the best ever. However Nikki Sixx could barely play Bass.
6. THE SEX PISTOLS.
7. The Clash.

Just to name a few.......

Agreed. The Pixies come to mind as well (not to mention that Nirvana openly admitted to ripping off the Pixies, as should every other alternative band out there).

There are (or were) still great virtuoso artists that don't limit themselves to the horrible MEEDLY-MEEDLY-MEEEEEE! speed playing. A few off hand:

Jimi Hendrix
Sonic Youth
Built to Spill
My Bloody Valentine (IMO the greatest guitarist ever, because he was so mind-shatteringly inventive).

The Pixies were hugely influential. I still listen to them regularly, and to Frank Black's post-Pixies material too. I've had the distinct pleasure of working with Frank Black on several occasions, he may be my favorite post-Beatles rock songwriter.

I was never a big Nirvana fan or follower but wasn't it the fact the Kurt Cobains lyrics were what connected them to so many people and the angst of what that generation was feeling? I always thought that was the big thing about Nirvana.
