The 100's PROGRAM

Does anyone here remember the details of this program?

I did this about 16 years ago and from what I can recall the goal was to lift a certain amount of weight for 100 repititions.

In reality you were suppossed to chose a weight that you might get 60 to 70 reps out of and then you rest for the the exact number of seconds as remaining reps to reach 100.

For example if you did 45 pounds flat bench for 73 reps you would rest 27 seconds and then attempt to finish the 27.

In any event I am looking for the specifics of this program as it really jumped me out of my plateau and shocked my muscles and after coming off a major surgery it seems like a good low impact program versus heavy weights.

Thanks in advance and K to the person who knows the details of this unique workout.

wow, i don't know what to say to that. but all i can think of is that this hardly seems low impact just because the weights will be lower...

or brook's kubik's 'man up' 100 rep workout (that's 100 near-max singles) The idea is to teach you your own limitations and waste an entire day in the rack.

I wouldn't do that or the M&F workouts as both are opposite ends of the kookoo spectrum

brings up an interesting thought that intensity counts for a LOT...as much as rep ranges

There was an article in MILO a few months back of a guy who wanted a 6-ton squat. Obviously, he wasn't going to manage it in a quick single so he opted to go for 60Kg for 100 reps.

IIRC it took him a while to work his way up to it and he reckoned in the end that he enjoyed the challenge but it did nothing for his 1RM.

Getting into the 100-rep range, you’re working muscular endurance and probably generating a lot of metabolic reactions, hormone release etc. Whether that will do much for you strength or size-wise in the long run is questionable. Couldn’t hurt every now and then, I s’pose, like most stuff.

lolol I'll own up to doing the M&F (I had to have read it there or in Flex) one Christmas morning 9-10 years ago. Naturally I thought the leg press was the way to go. It became more of a strip set because I had no idea how much I could do for a hundred.
I only did it twice more. Unfortunately for me, this workout didn't prove to be very useful at spurring muscle growth. :jester:

You've just triggered a memory. We had two really buff guys at a gym I used to go to. Not big but in really good shape, I think they used to spend a lot of time bicycling but not to excess.

One day I went to the gym and they were both looking fairly shattered and they told me they'd just done 100-rep squats. I just laughed uncontrollably and it was a couple of days before the thought of doing 100-reps didn't bring a chuckle. Maybe it was just a nervous laugh, I can't remember.

Thanks for all the replies so far. As for low impact. I should have been more specific and said Low poundage. I don't want to be slinging 100# flat bench dumbbells like I did pre-op. And the 100's uses low weights.

From what I remember reading the 100's hit both types of muscle fibers and is a very unique style of training.

The 100's IMHO will be a safe way for me to ease back in as weights are low and the intensity should really jump start muscle growth.

Kind of like throwing them a curve.

I did this program about 16 years ago and it really broke me out of a plateau.

It was weird doing just the bar and 10 pound plates on each side, but 5 weeks of it and I made great gains and had some incredible muscle seperation especially in my pecs. Some of the guys would look at me and laugh and do their 350 pound flat bench press, but like I said after 6 weeks I was really starting to get shredded and the muscle definition and vascularity was very pronounced.

Still looking for the program and NO it was not not a M&F article. I do know that. Not even sure M&F was around 16 years ago.LOL

Heck I might just have to go from my limited memory and customize my own plan.

K will be awarded soon!

Thanks again guys for taking the time to help me out.
