technique for dead lifts?

MP5

Banned
Should I keep my legs straight. or bent? SHould my lower back be sore the next day? I tried to do some last night and my lower back is sore today already.

if you keep your legs straight during the whole movement then your doing "str8 leg deadlifts" which works the back of the hams and some of your back. I bend my knees when I do regular deadlifts. One powerful, continious motion....lift it up...staighten legs, roll back the shoulders and lock it out.

bend the legs unless you are doing them for your hammies.. even then a slight bend is good.

think of it as a squat with your hands at the floor holding something... staggered grip is my fav. but some here use an overhand grip... lower back will be hurt a bit for a while and when you go heavy, no biggy as long as its muscle ache and not back ache...

There are two types of deads.

1. Standard DL. You bend full, neck forward, head up. Left with your legs and sway back.

2. Stiff legged deads. As the name suggest, your legs are stiff and you come up into the lean back.

Only with the stiff DL's should your lower back really be sore. You shouldn't get alot of pain in your lower back.

aight, let me jump in heya w/a diff ? if thats aight....

anyone know of any secrets to make your lats "longer"? the top of lats and there, and have good size to them, but they dont taper down the sides like I want.

mine are the left, I want the right...

Side dumb-bell rows.. use a full extension. If you have a hammer lat pull machine use that too!
