Tear in Pec/Shoulder area.

Has this happened to any of you?

While on the bench press this morning, I felt a pop and rip sensation in my left pectoralis/shoulder area. I hope all I've done is pull the ligaments in that area.

If this has happened to you, how long was your recovery time? Did you see a doctor to have it examined?

Thanks

see a doc bro. Sorry about the injury!

yep happend to me over a year ago.. i was warming up and did some flies and it just tore.. (just used lite db's)

it wasnt offically a tear but a bad strain.. i took 8 weeks off total

I lost 6 weeks. What you can do is make the best of a bad situation by cycling (not heavy cardio, but "active rest") and wait for your recovery. Take professional advice.

Go see a doc. you may need surgery, but it depemds on how bad the tear is. The tear was probably both muscles and a ligament. You have four stablizer muscles under the delts and you probably tore a couple of these. A Sports Medicine Doc. will give you the proper advice. Good luck with it man and sorry to hear about your bad luck.

Thank you all for sharing your experiences. I'll get it checked out and do some alternate activity to keep in as good of shape as I can.

Thanks again

i tore my left pec in 2001.i knew it right away,it hurt like a mofo.did it flat benching with a wide grip.was purple bruised from pec all the way down to wrist.got a mri 1 week later, xrays dont show muscle well,it must be an mri.i think you might have a inlination if its a pec tear i could not move and the area was hot and swollen.got it stitched up 3 weeks later.took 3-4 months after surgery and 6 months rehab to even start benching again.go see a dr.i hope its not serious.good luck

Symptoms are too vague to say it's a definite pec tear. If it was a pec tear, you'd know it by now......as other's have stated in the thread, the symptoms are pretty definitive. Sounds more like a ligament/tendon issue to me......esp with the pop sensation you described. If you tore the pec muscle you'd feel some give and you'd know something was pretty fucked up.

I hope it's minor.

Yeah sounds like a pull/strain. Like all the bro's said, if it was a tear, you'd notice it due to a purple coloring....

I've been having the SAME popping coming from the same region, almost right in the arm pit, for several weeks. I took one week off, then went really light the next week, then went heavier the second, and then f'd it up again last night

If I apply ice to it for a few days, it does get better so I don't think its a tear... and I don't want it to be! :redhot:
