i know i havn't been getting enough sleep, not eating enough, and i've been busting my ass for 13 weeks straight and making some gains. it's time for a short layoff. i have a feeling that the sleeping and the eating combined with the fact that i'm starting to hit the point of "overload" on 5x5 are all teamed up against me in the gym. overtraining was said to be the culprit affecting me on the other thread i started, but keep in mind that 5x5 is a progressive overload routine and you will eventualy hit the point where you can't complete the lifts for all 5x5 and have to drop to 5x3. i'm not in denial about the possibility that i'm overtraining. i'm just stating the facts (lack of proper sleep, food, and overload).
my "break" is only going to be 5 days, starting today. i know a lot would recommend longer, like a week, 10 days, or two weeks. i have also recommended the same thing to my partner. today i overslept for a class and decided i was just so tired that i wasn't going to go to the gym either. while the oversleeping wasn't planned, i had been thinking about what i was going to do this weekend, and when i woke up this morning and realized i was going to miss my class, i decided that i'd put my "rest" into action. after this break, i've got 3 weeks until the end of the semester, and then i'll take a slightly longer break, 1-2 weeks. i'm hoping the last week of April to be a week for new PRs on everything.
so my plan is to sleep a lot this weekend, eat a lot, and stretch a few times a day. i might do some light sets at home, as i do have a bench and weights here. if i did, they would be extremely light and only done to keep my muscles moving. would this be a bad idea?
after this semester is over, my plan from now on is to run 7 weeks, 8 at the most, and then take a week off. i'm afraid to take any time off though. when i was younger, i'd start working out and keep at it for a few months, then take a day or two off, and it'd all go downhill from there. taking time off over xmas this year had me worried that i wouldn't want to return to the gym. i had been working out for almost 4 months and making gains for the first time, i just didn't want to lose my momentum. i kept going however, so i don't think losing the momentum in the future will be a problem.
any other suggestions on this short break? (besides making it longer than 5 days)
i'm also happy that yesterday i picked up some more whey and finally got more weight gainer. i will NEVER buy anything except Optimum Nutrition whey again, as this stuff mixes sooooooooooooooo good. no chunks.
