delete any info you have on your laptop or at home pertaining to the following:

1) delete cookies for websites that are gear related.
2) any emails with wu info or addys that are gear related
3) wu receipts
4) receipts or tracking numbers for usps/fedex/ups (other carriers)
5) stash your gear somewhere VERY safe... even if it means goin through a major hassle to get to the gear every day.. its worth it!
6) know your rights.. i STRONGLY suggest buyyin legal musle by rick collins.

Does that include deleting emails in your encripted account, like cyber-rights.net, elitefitness.com, safe-mails.net, etc.????

youre on the safe side if your info is on cyber-rights..
not sure how elite or safemail work.

but if they want to get into your cyber-rights, they CAN!
it'll just take them a good year or so.. but its possible.

make your password long and hard to figure out!!

These are the same morons that will drive around with their gear in the car and then wonder why they got caught....lol

Very sensible advice Satch. One other thing that you might consider is browsing through a secure proxy to hide your IP address. Everything you do in the clear can be logged by your ISP.

Satch…. Are we taking these actions as a general precaution or are specific sources outside of Mexico having issues??

if youve ordered gear, CLEAN NOW! its thats simple.

It'll never happen to you....until it happens to you.

I totally agree. Clean your computer out NOW - for you and your sources sake. You take PCT after a cycle don't you? That cost money to protect. Cleaning out your computer is free and easy. DONT BE AN MOMO!

Don't throw anything in your garbage. The police don't need a search warrant to go in your garbage and if they find edvinced they can use that to get a warrant to search your house.

Suggest it is better to err on the side of paranoia, rather than complacency. From 1998 to 2003, I was a co-owner of a small computer systems integration company in Southern California. We had the opportunity to subcontract to a larger, well-known firm that works mainly for government departments. One of the projects they were working on was for the FBI. Operation Carnivore. They were installing packet-sniffers at some of the major ISPs in California, and the USA. These black boxes filter email communications key words. Yep. Wire Tap Spying. The FBI says that it's for gathering hard, criminal evidence with due process probable cause, not for random eavesdropping. Earthlink's network crashed because of this software. They tried to disconnnect it, but were forced to re-install by a court order! Whether we like it or not, it's a brave new world.

So, it's not a question of data gathering. It's really a question of priorities and investigative big-fish hunts. To capture the big fish in a net, sometimes the little ones get trapped as well.

My suggestion is to use several different Internet Cafe's to do your ordering, communication, emailing (recommend Safe-Mail, Hushmail or Mail.com). Try to be as anonymous as possible. That's your best strategy.

Best to use a public internet-cafe, specially when ordering, if you can use different cyber-cafes each time better yet

Relabel your bottles

Better yet, dont leave your own home. I engineer and secure wireless data communications for a living among other networking tricks, I can point an antenna at different homes in the neighborhood and surf off their IP address and ISP :p

Good post Satch. These things should be common sense to those that have knowledge of how the internet works, and how easy data mining is. Use internet cafes, definately. Use the alias feature on your encrypted email account, then, when done with the transaction, make another one for the next transaction. A little paranoia goes a long way in the information society.

Could you elaborate please?

Are you saying this as a general word of good advice or are you anticipating something beyond the mexico deal?

I 2nd that. I have been keeping tabs on this from day one..... or should I say trying to understand what the HELL is going on (I understand the bust part but I assume there is something beyond that)......????

I still dont get it and the weird to say the least post I have read.

well your somewhat right......that all depends on if its at the curb or within the curtilage (definiton land or structures adjacent to a home and to which life extends) of your house....on the curb no search warrant, its free pickings....

I think he is stating it because of the "DEA knocking" thing regarding the Mexico bust but to be truly helpful, we need to know for sure.

Essentially, obviously it is a good idea to take these precautions no matter what, but if there is something larger than the Mexican issue going on that encouraged Satch to post this, it is important we be aware

I asked something related to the internet cafe thing in another thread and got no replies so I'll ask it here as well. I always heard this is a very good way to stay anonymous, but is it? WHat steps when using this option need to be taken to keep your anonimity (SP?) other than changing the name of your laptop? Any feedback on this is greatly appreciated.
