Switching over from conventional deads to sumo

tried sumo for the first time on my last back day. a different feeling than regular deads. more back than legs... does one lift about the amount of weight using either style? or does one style allow for more weight than the other?

sumo gives the lifter better mechanical advantage than conventional, but it really comes down to how you trian...

big lifts have been made both with sumo and convention, so its your choice.

According to WSB...you should be able to pull the same with both...or darn near close. If you can't...you have a muscle imbalance.

I talked to Amy Weisberger a couple weeks ago about her doing deads in a strongman contest...she easily pulled 500 from 18" but when she locke out 600 the plates did not come off the boxes...her stance was too wide. She was kicking herself in the shin because she didn't pull conventional...because she can pull the same either way.

You should get better speed conventional though...

if you are gettin more back in sumo then your form is off because sumo is legs and conventional is back. so i would check your form on that.

I pulled sumo for the first time the other day, and I hated it. It's just a different feel, I guess. It seems to me that it would be easier to go from sumo to conventional than vice versa. What the heck do I know, though...I just didnt' like the way they felt period!!! lol

What the heck do you know? Ms. "I deadlifted 250 for 14 reps with no belt or straps or suit after doing 4 other killer balls to the wall events"!!!! :)

Hey now you two play nice :D I pull about the same on both my sumo in a little weaker. Probaly has to do with my weak abs but I am working on that as we speak

explain that to me. when I pull conventional, my body is getting a beating of a lifetime. when I pulled sumo, and I think I did it correctly, with a wide stance and arms inside of my knees, it was basically all back with a little glutes and quads. your statement is so ass backwards, unless I am lifting wrong or missing something here... tell me something I don't know since this was the first time pulling sumo.
