Anyone see the special on him on Dish Network? Pretty interesting fellow anyway, trained with Arnold also..The show deals allot about steroids and he goes on to say he did gear for 25 years. Most of his health problems presently are blamed on the steroid use. Collapsed spine, infertility, fused ankles, liver transplant to name a few. He actually lost 6 inches in height. The liver transplant got me doing a little more research on him and turns out he had Hep. C. also....

Hep C could have come from steroids indirectly . . .

could have reused needles or shared needles... (STUPID SHIT unless you want hepititus or HIV)

They identified a match were they cut their foreheads and both wrestlers were full of blood. This is when he got it, apparently in 1977. The transplant was in 2002 i think..
 
Duh 25 years of steroids without coming off properly, and inconsistant doseages doing god knows how much gear...it's not vitamin c, its big time stuff

Back in the seventies and eighties you could get Hep C from inadequate sterilization of hospital equipment. There are many documented cases of Hep C being transfered to a patient while undergoing hospital care.
 
I've heard a lot from him featuring anti-steroid propaganda. Now, on one hand, that's his choice. On the other, you can't blame fused ankles, a colapsed spine, etc etc. on steroids. He was a really big dude and used to play pro football if I remember right. He looked tremendous at his peak in the late 70s. And, by the mid-late 80s was preaching against steroids. He obviously had a tough career that took its toll on his body. Steroids probably contributed to the toll, but I wouldn't think nearly as much as suffering all those ring injuries, hep C etc. etc.

The liver transplant had to be due to 25+ years of orals and all the painkillers he was taking. In his DVD he said he never drank, but he said he was taking "prescripton painkillers and downers" at doses that a normal man would die from!
Not to mention all the boys back in the day were downing D Ball like friggen candy! This is WAY before Milk Thistle or Tylers that we use today!! But he still is a great man and he had a AWESOME body in the ring before anyone at that time looked liked a Bodybuilder. SUPERSTAR IS THE MAN!

I'm sure the wrestling he did did not help spine, ankles, etc.
