So i was taking my son to Guitar Center to get some picks for his guitar. Its in a strip mall next to an Army Recruiting center. So as we pass, we see an Army Officer standing outside in full gear, smoking a cigarette. My son says "Mom I want to go thank man for protecting our country, is that ok?" And I say "sure go ahead".
So he walks up to this dude, and says "thanks for your service to our country". (I'm a proud parent at this point)
Well, the gentleman was so impressed and amazed at being thanked He says "You're the first person to ever do that. Come on in here" and he brings us inside the Army office there, takes us into the back storage room, and starts filling my purse with Army merchandise like water bottles, key chains, pencils, etc.

My son was thanking him profusely as did I. So then we left and went next door to Guitar Center. We're standing in Guitar Center and the Army dude comes walking up to us and hands us more stuff "Oh i forgot to give you these stickers and other stuff"

"Wow, thank you so much. That's really nice of you"

"Ya'll come back by on your way out, I have more stuff to give you can share with your classmates too"

So we went back there after Guitar Center and the dude filled up a huge mesh Army bag with a box of little Army basketballs, more pencils, pens, folders, wristbands, etc.

He seemed really touched by my son's appreciation. It made me feel real good.

Wow.....if my opinion of Billy could get any higher, it'd shot up about a million bajillion points.... Give him a hug for me!

Wow, That is awesome Smurf....
To know that your son is thoughtful, kind, and thankful.Instead of rushing into a store to be all involved in age appropriate stuff he stopped to be polite..Good shit.

Obviously that speaks volumes about your parenting and about what type of boy Billy truly is.

being thanked is the greatest compliment a service member can receive. kudos to your son.

it reminds me of the time I was standing in line at Dunkin Donuts in my winter blues (NAVY), and there was a young boy probably around 6 or 7 there with his grandparents.

He was looking over at my ribbons and rating badge. So, his grandma says, why don't you go over and ask.

So, he comes over and starts asking what each of my ribbons were for and what my rating badge meant, so I knelt down and told him all about them and we must have talk for 5 to 10 minutes. The glimmer of fascination in his eyes I will never forget. These are some of the reasons I love putting on my uniform and serving my country.
