Summer DE squat training

dg21

New member
KG18, MjayM and I have been doing our DE days a little differently recently.

We do a normal 3 week progression like Westside recommends. Here we use blues and minis choked. After this we do two weeks of heavy band tension and lower weight. Here we use two blues, sometimes two blues and purples. A couple times we also through on a chain or two. Our speed drops some, but we are still pretty fast on these days. For the sixth week we go down to real low band tension, green band, and medium weight to work with more strainght weight out of the hole.

It has seemed to have been productive as all of our squats have gone up a lot. We all think working with heavy band tension helped a ton. I bet KG and MjayM will go 800 or more at thier next meet, and they are teenagers.

Although I'm not sure if the different squat cycle that helped or it was just the competition of training together again. Also it was real fun doing something a little different.

Just thought I'd share what has been working for us.

Good work, guys! I wish I could be there this weekend to watch! Someone call my cell after and tell me how it went. :D

Since dg won't pat himself on the back, I will say that i predict him to squat ATLEAST nine at his next meet

Good stuff, I better get my form up to par with you guys around.

It sounds like your training is really coming together. It's unbelievable how strong you guys are getting. Keep training smart and there is no telling how far you guys can go in the sport. Good luck next weekend. I'll be anxious for the results.

Hey VDOP,

Well after using all the band tension this summer, doing a circa max with just blues and greens would be too little tension. When I do a circa max phase I will probably use a lot more band than is recomended.

We all seem to agree, that a ton on band tension has helped us a lot, so you may want to try to use more tension than is recomended.

But, this was a process getting used to all the band, so I don't know if you would want to just begin working with extra tension in a stressfull cycle like the circa max. I know I have read some people can just handle more band than others, and for some too much too soon can lead to injury.

Not sure if this helps at all. Let us know what you plan for your circa max and keep us updated.
