sugar alcohols in gum

cuthroat said:
Yeah if you chew like 20 packs of wintergreen within an hour you'll be wasted.
so its bad for you to chew lots of sugarless gum with sugar alcohols in it?

so its holding me back bb wise to chew say a pack a day?

Unfortunately, there are some negatives associated with sugar alcohols. The most common side effect is the possibility of bloating and diarrhea when sugar alcohols are eaten in excessive amounts. There is also some evidence that sugar alcohols, much like fructose (natural fruit sugar) in fruit and fruit juice can cause a “laxative effect.” Weight gain has been seen when these products are overeaten. The American Diabetes Association claims that sugar alcohols are acceptable in a moderate amount but should not be eaten in excess. Some people with diabetes, especially Type I diabetics, have found that their blood sugars rise if sugar alcohols are eaten in uncontrolled amounts.
5 seconds on google.

I can't even eat one piece of something with sugar alcohols without getting very painful cramps and bloating. Yeah, the laxative effect is pretty bad.

New song

Sugar alcohol is pretty heinous
It'll hit you in the anus...

LOL

do they have the same negative effect on your body as regular drinking alcohol?

No. But, sugar is sugar. . .if used at the wrong time, the insulin response can make you fat. I've kept a serious eye on my sugar intake since I eclipsed 40 (he says while taking another long pull on his non-diet Dr. Pepper. . .weekends are for cheaters :) :) ).

would you guys get off the kid's ass about sugar free gum. he already eats clean as a horse and lifts like no other 18 year old outside of college football he can chew gum. fuck this fuckin pisses me off

lol his question was if it's actual alcohol, which I think is in fact interesting and valid. I don't think it's ridiculous?

allow me to explain:

piece of sugar free gum = 5 calories
1 gram of alcohol = 7 calories
9 grams of alcohol = 63 calories = amount of calories in a shot of liquor

if the alcohol in gum were the same as alcohol in liquor, 12-13 pieces of gum should be about 60-65 calories of alcohol, = same amount of alcohol in a shot of liquor.

so he needed to know if chewing a pack per day = putting the equivalent of a shot of liquor into your body spread over a day.

right?

so the question is, is it actual alcohol?

I think not, but if it were, this would be something to actually consider.

therefore his question is not ridiculous

therefore I am retarded, and the answer is probably on google.

your close, but its not about the excess cals, i can handle excess cals at my age.

im talking about the effects of alcohol as a substance, how it fucks with recovery and protein synthesis for u p to 24 hours after consumption.

and the insulin spike bs causing extra fat storage

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

that's what I'm saying, if it's just calories then it's not something to worry about, but if it's actually alcohol the amount you're ingesting could be equal to a shot if you chew a whole pack everyday so that could have fat storage/recovery implications.

fuck. no more gum.

what about pot?

well we don't know if it's actually alcohol or just calories yet. I don't think anyone answered that and we'd have to go to google to find out, which I'm not prepared to do yet. I mean that's serious shit.

what about pot?
i dunno

It can throw off a breathalyzer test. I had a friend that blew above the legal limit after chewing a piece. He hadn't been drinkng. They took him to the police station and gave him another breathalyzer 15 minutes later and it came up 0.00. They still threw his ass in the drunk tank overnight.

i like to chew sugar free dent while smoking pot. makes the smoke taste better, I think.

after a while though, the gum gets saturated with tar and smoke and THEN it becomes gross..

i used to chew ALOT of sugarless gum back in the day and I also smoked cigarettes while chewing gum (I chewed 3 plenty-paks of Extra gum everyday - thats a lot of chewing - no wonder I have TMJ). I was told that chewing gum while smoking is very bad b/c it actually can increase your chances of getting mouth cancer.
