Substitute for Dextrose

Coldshot said:
Is there a good substitute for dextrose? Something that can be easily bought instead? They dont sell it on my country.

I've been taking high GI carbs post workwork to facilitate recovery. For example white bread

Most dextrose is cheap and made of CORN STARCH, so you can replace it w/ the CS if you can stand the taste.

Would it be ok if i added like 2 tbls of cornstarch to my protein shake post workout? I'm thinking the shake would be able to offset the taste

I'm not a 100% sure of the nutrition facts of corn strach, but I would guess you'd need about 4tbsp. Just remember the taste is not of the best nature.

Corn starch is used to make dextrose and maltodextrin (using controlled hydrolysis and and spray drying), corn starch is a long chained carbohydrate polymer, so i dont think its gona work the same as a simple sugar, ie. spiking your insulin level.

Coldshot, try looking in your yellow pages for brewing supplies, baking supplies and food ingredient suppliers.

I tried calling but it seems they only sell it by the metric ton. Probably need a silo to store it.:D

What would be a better alternative to corn starch then

SMARTIES

Eat a pack of Smarties. I was looking at some the other day at work and one of those little packets has 6g carbs, and dextrose is listed first on the label. I'm not too sure about all the other ingredients. Lots of colors, and maybe some citric acid?

Fook mi, I don't even know if you can get those in Singapore.

heheh isnt that the chocolate bits in a plastic tube? Woudlnt it be the same if i just took white sugar?

Are you from Europe? Here in the UK Smarties are chocolate bits with a sugar coated shell. In the US apparently they are dextrose sweets. Totally different.
