There's been a bit of talk about shooting sub-q AFAIK on these and similar boards recently. I was itching to get rid of some old test-e, and decided to do a few weeks of sub-q shots to see for myself what the process was like.
I will say, in short, that it's not worth it - though only for a specific reason: estrogen. I experienced much stronger E2 related sides than IM, though OTC topical formestane pretty much cleared the issue up immediately... YMMV.
The first few weeks shooting into different sites around the abdomen, using a 27.5g 3/4" needle to administer 0.5cc of 250/ml T-E. I used 4 shots per week for 500mg/wk, apparently multiple smaller shots reduce E2 sides. The shots weren't bad at all... Not just painless, but completely unnoticeable. Someone could have hit me in my sleep and I wouldn't have noticed. This, compared to days of aching quads from a shot was quite nice. The only site specific side I experienced was the odd itchy/bruised lump in 25% of my shots... Ones near the belly button were, by far, more prone to this. Injecting under the love handle area, while not recommended, was hands down the least likely to elicit sides.
I definitely experienced the test rush that you get doing IM after the E kicked in, which for me is approximately 2 weeks after the first shot.
But I just switched back to hitting my delts and pecs. They're barely painful, never result in a swollen lump, and have fewer sides... And I could use the same pins, luckly, as these muscles aren't too deep to worry about burying 1" into them.
Just figured I'd throw it out there for anyone interested. If you're worried about pain, hit your delts... With test-e, it's downright painless beside the initial muscle twitch.
I got bloodwork taken 3.5 weeks after my first sub-q shot. Waiting on the results for free T.
