Strengthening Lower Back

New member
In about four weeks I want to start incorporating deadlifts into my back routine. Last time I did them I had to stop lifting for the day because my lower back burned so bad. It wasn't from bad form either, I did very light weight. The reason I think it hurt so bad is because I was on dbols, but mostly because my lower back is so weak. I never really did anything for it. For the next month I want to add strength to my lower back so when I start deadlifting it will be stronger. What are some good exercises besides the obvious goodmornings???

hyperextensions. add weight when bodyweight gets too easy. a good wramup for deads too. dont go beyond parallel (body straight)

but really, the best way to get better at deads is deadlifts themselves. Keep the reps low and the rest between sets fairly high. If you pull sumo the lower back will be less involved than the conventional stance

Is there a site where I can find the correct form of the sumo deadlift?? I've never done them before and am not quite sure on the form.

try this:

or search for sumo deadlift on google. Lots of good stuff pops up. The thing about sumos is that if you can get it off the florr, the deadlift is usually yours. Speed is the key. I no longer think of IF I can do the weight, only how FAST I can do it. My form is perfect even on maxes. I use kind of a grab and go technique, I squat down while looking straight ahead and just grab the bar and go with no pause. Kind of a squat with my arms as hooks. I have found this to leave me in the best starting position as possible. Give em a shot!
