Strength Standards

Those standards make me feel super weak. But, they make no reference to height or anything else other than weight. I don't think that can be used across the board for strength standard. Afterall, muscle strength is directly proportional to cross-sectional muscle area, not length... so, people who are taller and have longer muscles [and are heavier] don't nessecarilly have to be stronger..

Dude, even if i classify myself as a "Beginner" under that strength standard, i am not that strong!!!

ya well just because someone can lift more then someone else doesnt make them strogner.
someone with short limbs and lift more then someone iwht long limbs just becuase of rang of motion.

I think the women's numbers are probably accurate, although, I think that's based on what most women do...not what most women CAN do. My numbers are off the chart. Not because I'm a badass, but because the chart doesn't account for us outliers that train for this.

I even think the Elite status in powerlifting for women is too low. It takes most men I know YEARS to reach Elite. It doesn't seem too hard for the ladies.

I take it this "someone" doesn't deadlift? God bless my long arms when I'm on the platform. :)

I'm pretty confident that I can meet or beat the advanced lifter...but it seems pretty easy to obtan to me...

Bodyweight of 290
Squat 600
Bench 435
Deadlift 605
Standing OHP 265

Tough act to follow with Darden but here we go;

Bodyweight: 226
Bench: 360
Squat: 465
SOP: 205

Can't do sldl bc of a prior back injury. I consider myself in damn good shape and I am an intermediate lifter according to that scale of strength. What do you guys think?

I weigh about 202lbs today

For intermediate - well technically I'm sorta in between begineer and intermediate

430 full squat - about 325 now - will be there by end of this year :)

315 bench - I can do 225x3 a month ago, so max about 250 - can do soon.

470 deadlift - almost got 455 - so not that far off now :) By end of the year for sure

190 overhead press - don't know what my max is, but I'm a long way off I think. I have done 145x2 couple months ago.

i guess i would be an intermidate beginner

415 dead - i hope to be up to 450 in about 3 month

385 squat - was up to 405 but had some hip problem will be back up also within 2 months

250? bench - i hit 235 for 5x5 no max yet

165? OSP - i get 165 for 5x5

"Note: For those who do not do 1-REP maxes, you can take 75% of your indicated 1-REP max weight. This is how much you should be able to lift for 8-12 repetitions. "

That might make some of you feel better.

I'm hovering around advanced...it just means I need to get stronger. I would give up some of my strength for more size though.

170lbs 5'5"
Bench: 250x8
Squat: 315x8

Those are the only two exercises that I do from the list.

I want to hit a 315 bench and 400 squat by the end of this year - and be up another 10-15lbs.

Seems about right to me. . .

For any strength athlete those numbers seem about right. I am a terrible deadlifter but pretty good squatter, bencher and overhead presser. i myself cannot deadlift the advanced numbers at my bodyweight, but I can total the same amount, by making it up on other lifts.

For most gym rats tho, anyone who is doing the middle set of numbers would be, and should be, considered very strong. The set of numbers on the far left would be a very talented and dedicated athlete, I would think.

I think thats an excuse.. if you have longer arms and legs, then you have a bigger frame, therefore, you should have bigger muscles... the best to compare, Arnold and franco.. Arnold was just as strong as franco. or compare lee preist and anyone whos tall..

thats just an excuse to a weak tall person... thats what i think.

damn, i never do 1RMs but boy, do i feel like shit now. oh well, at least i'm stronger than the intermediate woman and beginner man! (oh joy)

i'm in the 300lb woman class and i don't even come close to any of the standards :bawling:

lol i wish i had the same lifts as a 300lb woman by those standards!

lolol

For my body weight I am between the intermediate and advanced, the only thing I am lacking in would be deadlift.
