straps for deadlifts

I was wondering if it's ok to use lifting straps or they affect in someway the intensity your can put on your work out, thank you.

As a guy who still competes in grip strength competitions I have to say... no, no, no to straps lol.

The truth is two-fold. Bodybuilding requires a level of volume for most athletes that means the grip often gives out. Partly because most athletes don't train their grip and or forearms. So they use straps on some back exercises so they can get the volume done.

However, the flip side is that squeezing hard onto the bar makes the muscle being worked contract harder (not many know this but it's true - try it with an exercise). That means less volume is needed.

So do a little grip work and save the straps for when you absolutely have to use them.
