Hello all! I had a couple questions about some diet supplements and judging by all the other posts I reviewed in here, figured this would be the best place to post. Please let me know if I am in fact wrong

I used to be a huge fan of the old Metabolife 356. Yes, the good stuff with 12 mg of ephedrine alkaloids / ma huang in the "proprietary blend".
I recently stumbled across a fat burner / energizer named Stimerex - ES. I noticed it said it has "25 mg Ephedra Extract (leaves)".
My question is this -- are "ephedrine alkaloids" (as in Metabolife 356) and "ephedra extract (leaves)" referring to the same thing / process / type of ingredient? Are they equally as powerful and if not, what are the differences and why?
I ask simply because it seems kind of funny how Metabolife 356 was banned and it only contained 12 mg of ephedra but then Stimirex (with almost double the amount of ephedra.. unless I'm wrong in interpreting the label) is being sold with no problem despite having double what Metabolife had?
If someone could clear this up for me I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm secretly hoping what I have here with Stimirex will do exactly what Metabolife 356 used to do (if not more!).
