is that okay to be?
i'm not racking the muck or talking shit, but it seems like a shady precedent to set.
are we not allowed to disagree/argue with mods anymore??
cause they way i read it we are not...

we can disagree just not disrespect...

I'm with bino on this one. Unless it upsets some higher ups, then I'm all for his banning.
the next banning will be the final banning
but, pending some disaster, i don't see that happening

That's a pretty good way to put it, but it goes even deeper; "disagreement" has sometimes been used as an excuse to undermine or sabotage a mod's authority, too.

Of course the mods are human; what we are addressing is a mindset that says "because mods (sometimes) make mistakes, that gives us the right to question, dispute or defy every decision made by any mod."

No, it doesn't. It does not give you any right to repost a deleted thread, steal advertising space, or engage in any other behavior that a mod has told you needs to stop.

It does give you the right to ask another mod to intervene, or tell the admins that you are having a communication problem.

My PM box is open and I know how to archive it so it doesn't fill up, unlike Rick's. :D

hey diggs is there a ef-mobile in the works?
it doesn't work worth a fuck as it is, every post equals a page and it takes forever to read an entire thread

perhaps there's sentiment for a more democratic way of being ruled
these are paying customers

i agree 100%.

Didn't the original post say:

do not disprespect, hinder, or give crap to any mod [BOLD]doing their job[/BOLD].

So I read that as we're free to argue with them, but only within the context of them doing their job.

That item was on the list; we found it contrary to fact.

The kind of people we want here -- interesting and intelligent posters -- are overwhelmingly in favor of a more grown up approach.

In short, "that dog won't hunt."

We're not discussing this. We're explaining it, and having explained it we'll be enforcing it.

what bigmann said.

of course you can disagree with a mod. you can argue too.
i've argued with lots of members. pretty adamantly. but they were respectful.
that's what we're saying.

a copout, so to speak and hence why i'm concerned

Digger is right. Admins & mods deserve a certain level of respect. There is something called status, and it is present not to undermine other members, but to have the authority and responsibility to keep this board safe, friendly and educational for all the members. Disrespect is a fools game.

Guardian calling me a kissass in 3, 2, 1....

what's the regular poster to mod ratio?

I think if I am not mistaken, the ratio of "regular poster" : mod, ie. the value of the fraction mod / "regular poster = probably something like 1 / 1000 = 0.001. That's 1/10th of a percent. I really don't believe there are to many mods on this boards, but that's not the issue being discussed here.

Moreover, the mods / admins do not look down, patronize or belittle members. That is a rash statement, based on circumstantial evidence.

if you're trying (emphasis on trying) to say that you can disrespect and insult a mod when he's not directly in the act of doing his job, think again.

that door's been closed.

arguing/disagreeing on non-Mod action topics is fine of course. disrespect and insults are not.

arguing/disagreeing on Mod actions on the open board is off the table.

If you have a problem with a mod,

1) first step is to PM him to try to work it out like 2 humans (what a concept).

2) If you're not satisfied, next step is to PM Admin with your issue.

seems like a pretty fair, resonable and efficient way of doing things.

I have heard Mav emphasize this many times on several different threads. No disrespect to anyone, but this should go without saying...

I looked at WAP a while back, but jeebus, we're already way behind where we wanted to be on the upgrade cycle. The vBulletin folks have re-invented maybe two-thirds of our custom code, which is great, seriously, but we still have some stuff that needs to get hacked into the upgraded site before we can turn it live... and whether the new release is more mobile-friendly or not, I haven't got a clue.

Maybe you just need an iPhone? I should talk George into giving me one. It's a business expense, right?

being a mod and still trying to enjoy the site as a customer is pretty tough to do. you have to lay down the law, because thats what the job entails, but at the same time you dont want to over do it and mess around and find yourself not enjoying your time here. i have a lot of respect for the mods because it is a thankless job in a way. if it were not for them this place would run out of control and nobody would come here. its like being a cop in a way, sometimes you have to lay the smack down on someone you are "friends" with because its your job. ive been there and its not fun but you gotta do it. so cut them some slack because the ones that abused their power are not here anymore. this board is very good at maintaining order and control and thats why ive been here for 8 years. i may not have 1.2 million posts like some of yall but i have certainly enjoyed my time here and hope to continue to enjoy this board for years to come. im plat for life and if i was able to afford it i would be a COTB.

you have to compare it to the entire site not just c&c plus not all mods have mod powers in all boards too....

exactly.

and your other post is right on the money too... bino- chat is one forum here. the rules are the same everywhere though- there are definate rules in the AAS forum and the moderators MUST enforce them. I think we all agree that's understandable.
so we can't have members in the AAS forum name calling and degrading a mod and getting banned for it, but saying it's okay to do it chat. it's not.

if you're worried about 'pwning' a mod and thinking that's disrespect- use your judgement. you want to call one of us out on who won a baseball game, i'm sure that's fine.

I'm guessing bino isn't concerned about the "doing their job" part of protecting a mod. Its what they do when their job is the last thing on their minds.

Some mods stay above the fray virtually all the time and some jump into the muck and wallow-around with members. If a mod decides to wallow in the swill over controversial issue "XYZ" and engage in derogatory language is this policy aimed at protecting them when they don't like the way the tide turns?

Not trying to speak for bino, but I'm guessing that's what he and others would be concerned about.

part of the plan here is that mods will refrain from the already rare instances of "wallowing in the swill and engaging in derogatory language".

no need to cite examples, we know they're there. we've all done it. BRR has directed that it stop, and so it will.

Ahhhh... didn't know that part! It makes perfect sense.

I always figured mods could just make admin-approved alters and swing-away with those toons. It would stink not being able to fight with the rest of us.

You know I still cannot view the board with my Iphone. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Any time I go to log in I keep getting pop ups. It is a pain so I just give up.
