Steroid Users Questions for Research

gradstudent said:
It is a research paper for a GRADUATE CLASS. Not for NIH, DEA, or any health orginization. I am one 24-year-old here, not a team of people. Why are you concerend about answering the questions? Every post I have read people talk about there cycles, how to get the roids, how they get family member involved and you circle me out of that! Sorry for trying to balanced paper. Sorry for trying to have a fair and accuate picture of what users think. Damn what am I thinking? Get over yourself.
....you can edit this comment....me thinks it will give your paper project a weeeee bit more credibility if you don't start acting like an ass.

All:

First off this is a great message board! I am conducting a research paper on steroid use for my graduate class at American University. I have a few questions for the users. I would be very grateful if you could respond to this message in the forum or via e-mailing me ([email protected]). Ok here are my questions:

1. How easy are steroids to obtain? Do you make your own? Do you buy them over the net?
2. If you buy them over the net do you feel they are safe?
3. When did you begin using roids?
4. Do you do them because of pressures from society to look good?
5. Do the health warnings concern you about roid use?
6. Does it concern you when athletes die as a direct result from supplement or steroid use?

I thank you all in advance for helping me out!!

1. Steroids are not all that hard to obtain if you know the right people. But they can be hard, and that's why alot of people get ripped off. Aswell, if you're not careful, you could be buying from an under cover police officer.
Some people make their own gear. They just buy the chemical, and they liquify it themselves. Saves big money if you know what you're doing, if not, you can seriously fuck up.
2. When buying over the internet, you are definately at a high risk of being caught. You need to make sure the person you're getting them from is legit.
3. 19 years old
4. I did them for myself. I did them because I want to look good. Does it help getting girls? Yes. But that definately was not the sole purpose, or even a thought when I was thinking about doing them.
5. I feel that the health care system is fucked up on it's own. I feel safer injecting steroids, than I do eating McDonalds. That tells you alot. As long as you do your research, know what you're doing exactly, then I feel steroids are perfectly safe and very benefitial to your well being.
6. I don't like seeing people die.Especially from an addictioin or abuse of a drug. It does have a huge influence on the community, aswell as those that perceive us as drug users.

Hey you guys (users on this board) need to smarten up. Here's a kid that will finally post an article with REAL FACTS instead of horseshit that makes us look like coke users. Answer his damn questions so that it brings light to our game.

I didn't mean my comment as a personal attack on yourself. I just asked a simple question that I thought you would have interpreted as, (Whats the objective of your paper?) ie. Whats your thesis? In order to understand the world of steroid users and high performance athletes you must take time to learn about it. I'm sure you know this. You might think about changing your thesis (whatever it is) to something of the effect: (Media misinformation and alarmism; how it has brainwashed the public into accepting alcohol and tobacco while denying performance enhancing supplements.........)

I don't like questions like...1.How easy are steroids to obtain?5. Do the health warnings concern you about roid use?
6. Does it concern you when athletes die as a direct result from supplement or steroid use?

These just make it seem like loaded questions if you know what I mean.......

I guess I'd just like to know more about your paper thats all.

Check out this article - its a great example of what i'm talking about
Also, check the feedback the author gets.......

AMGETR - Again not a personal attack on you -- well maybe a little but here goes...

Which of his questions will yield REAL facts about the nature of steroids and how they can be properly used without significant negative consequences? It just seems as though his questions were geared towards the perpensity of the american individual to abuse AAS and/or the average AAS users lack of knowledge about what hes using....

Lets look at your answer to his #3 for instance. Your answer of "19yrs" is a bad answer because it shows a lot about how steroids CAN be dangerous to one's health. For example, I can guarantee that your body was not ready for AAS at the age of 19. Your hormonal systems had not yet reached full maturation and you probably did not know much about what you were using other than what was told to you by other users. (yes these are assumptions) So, if I am correct in assuming that other people have also tried them at this age and with your same level of knowledge and experience then this kinda shows a problem with AAS dosn't it? Maybe they need to be restricted even more so our youth don't mess themselves up. Afterall even the Bush administration has supported studies that show AAS use up among highschoolers and middle school students.

That said... You are a vet on this board. I am not. You prob have increased your knowledge of AAS 100X from when you first started at the ago of 19 and you, no doubt, know what your doing now. I'm not doubting your competency now but rather highlighting the fact that you started AAS wayyyy to early.

Anyway, I just don't see how his questions are fair and balanced. I think his questions do make us look like coke users.

Another example: his last question ---- heres another ? to consider ---- Does it concern you when people die as a direct result of OTC medication?

dunno if a European is of any but, but this is mine:

1. hard for a newbie, too many scamming websites and sources; easy for an experienced user
2. yes
3. 4 years ago at the age of 30
4. no, actually most of the time i am "too big" in other people's eyes, but i personally like that look. Here in Austria most people are fat and i never felt that anyone would demand a 6pack or any degree of muscularity from me, not even the females, they are so used to the fat men around here they don't know better anyway.
5. no. its like voting for bush, the more the media tells me to do so i tend to do it the other way.
6. no; for Bodybuilders, the biggest dangers are in contest preparation where they have to get rid of a lot of water, i don't compete, this does not bother me. i also don't use synthol. i always aspirate so immediate death from steroid use is impossible. long term risks are probably there but i firmly believe that being fat and sedentary, drinking and smoking pose the biggest health risks today, steroids primarily do better yourself.

1. They are pretty easy to obtain. I could walk into a gym as a total stranger and have at least one lead before the end of the workout. It's all about how you talk to people.
2. That depends.
3. I began using them during my college football career about 4 years ago.
4. I use them because I like the results and I feel as though I am much more confident with myself on them.
5. If one is completely aware of all the risks and takes all precautions while using steriods there should be no reason for concern/
6. No because nothing has been directly related to either steroid or supplement use. If Athletes were smart and educated these problems would not occor.

Well, I should have further expanded my answer. I started at 19 for one main reason - I lost a testicle to cancer when I was very young, thus resulting in having a very low natural testosterone production. So I feel that AAS is benefitial for me, not just for bodybuilding, but for a healthy lifestyle aswell.
For the normal person, 19 is WAY too young. However, I feel, I am an exception to that rule.

Great answer bro. Without sounding like a dick Machi, one should always get the full picture before making some accusatory attacks on a guys post. I am in a similar situation as amgetr, but I as well would not have wasted time and space trying to explain my situation while answering a post - there is always space down the road if bro's need more explanation (ie: I could write a book!). Amgetr's posts usually seem pretty decent and he seems pretty educated with respect to gear; therefore I'm sure he knows the risks of starting gear too early and would stay away from risky practices....

1. How easy are steroids to obtain? Do you make your own? Do you buy them over the net?

Buy them on the net.

2. If you buy them over the net do you feel they are safe?

Yes - I buy from respected pharmacies, reccomended by others.

3. When did you begin using roids?

Age 24, recovering from injury.

4. Do you do them because of pressures from society to look good?

No - I used to have swimmers muscles and model looks, women used to swoon. Now I'm 25kg heavier and scary looking.

5. Do the health warnings concern you about roid use?

Only a little - I use careful doeses and take great concern in designing the correct cycle. I use other drugs and supps to reduce the side-effects.

6. Does it concern you when athletes die as a direct result from supplement or steroid use?

How many "athletes die as a direct result from supplement or steroid use?" I'm more scared about the way I used to drive as a teenager, or about the drugs my friends take when we go to clubs. Steroids don't kill athletes

GOOD LUCK with the report.
