squating causing hip pains

started with bar weight and have been adding 10lbs to my squat each day and all was well until recently when i started getting closer to my 5rm now that its heavier im having a hard time going as deep as i want and when i do try i get these pains in my hip in the socket it feels like. it goes away after awhile of sitting down but this is hindering my performance.

im going to drop down in weight because im not getting the full range i want with my squat and ill call this my max. my question is should i be worried about these pains? is there anyway to strengthen the hips so i dont have to deal with it?

thanks

ps no the weight isnt anything special im just happy i finally got 2 plates on both sides :)

Would be interested in the replies myself. This happened to me the other day with a relatively light weight. Since it was light I was concentrating on going as deep as possible when I felt a tweak in my left hip. Felt like it was in the socket as you described. It wasn't a big deal, though. I was able to finish the rest of my sets without a problem. Just felt funny.

I squat heavy and get hip pains all the time. I have just learned to live with them. They haven't caused any issues to this point so I just go with it.
I love when I'm on a cycle of durabol or deca they take away all the pain.

do you do any hip mobility work?

I was getting them before when I started to overreach. Micro trama build up etc

hip mobiity work and foam rolling the glutes, hips and IT band will help a lot as well

If it is pain you're experiencing then something is wrong and you need to re-evaluate the situation.

If it is soreness, it's inevitable, but bear in mind that a powerlifting style squat (if that is the way you're squatting) will put extra stress on the hip area, and stimulate your butt cheeks if you have great potential back there. Over time your hip area should get up to speed.

One thing is for sure, heavy back squats put so much stress on the hips. A strength cycle will really beat them to pieces, so it's useful to back off once in a while and do some light recovery squats and repetition work.

inch beyond shoulder width stance toes wider then heels. weight is only 225 *my 1st time working on squats since hs and even i didnt do more then like 160* i weight 160. warm up will be like 5 reps of 135 and lunges with just body weight. after i do the squats and move to standing military press they dont hurt but when i goto clean i feel it again. and by the time im done for the day its gone.

try 5 minutes on the treadmill and elliptical then warm up with a weight that u can easily do 12-15 reps.

If your pain is like mine then you should worry. My pain is severe and sometimes can't walk without discomfort for 2 days.
This is what I do to get around the squat pain. Warm up on a bike for 5 minutes do leg extensions first to exhaust the quad then do leg presses followed by squats if no pain.
Of course you will not be able to squat as much but I get a good leg work out with little to no pain the next day.

well i was getting like pain in the socket like the bone was grinding on somthing. this was at like 225 (my current 5rm) and i wasnt going near as deep as i wanted. today we dropped down the weight to start climbing up and i did my 3 sets of 5 at 170 as deep as i could go and no hip pain. im hoping that climbing back up with help strengthen weaker areas or something.. either way it felt great to go that deep again.. that was kinda dirty

have u rested legs at all to help?

u can also try taking some time off of legs or squats.

well i did get the weekend to rest up but the pain never lasts longer then a few min. after a heavy life and never the next day. i normally do cardio tues and thurs. and have no issues on the treadmill and i do the 3x5 so im squatting m w f. ill repost on wens to see if it was the rest that made mondays feel good or if it was the large drop in weights. i think it was the heavier weights on my joints that i was feeling personally but ill keep you all updated

Explain to me where your pain is located... Is it on the backside of your hip under your butt? Or is it directly on the bone and hurts to the touch?

If its directly on the bone and feels like there is a huge bruise there it is I.T. band tightness. Stretching will definately help .

I'm starting to get this in my left hip as I'm hitting new PRs now. Could you give a couple of specific stretches for this?
