Squat PR (vid)

New member
As promised, I am posting some video of my squat workout from Monday. Hit a new all time PR of 650. I feel as though I had some room to spare, and probably should have gone for another set w/higher weight, but I didn't.
Sorry about the angle of the video. didn't realize that it wasn't gonna be a very good angle, but if you look at my reflection in the mirror, you can see it better. I tried to convert the file, and then shorten the video, but when I did, video got real distorted, so you will have to just bare through watching me set up to do the lift.

Learned a very valuable lesson that I want to pass on to everyone. Do not attempt to go for a max bench press the day after a max squat attempt. Little did I know, that when squatting, you are putting a lot of stress on your elbows while holding on to the bar during the squat. The day after my PR squat, I was to try a Rage X bench shirt. (I had tried one the week before, was 2 sizes too big, but was able to bench 425 with it.) got the shirt on, went w/an easy weight (405) and as I brought it down, I immediately felt a lot of pain, and a burning sensation in my elbows. I couldn't even begin to reverse the weight, and told my lifting partner to take it. Had to call it a day at that, b/c I am not about to try to work through an injury, only to make it worse, and have even more time out of they gym. I was talking with my training partner, and he told me that he had experienced the same thing, and that he hasn't tried to bench heavy after a heavy squat day. I thought to myself "gee...why didn't you share this info with me earlier?"

Nice work Ill. Since you never responded to my PM you bastard, I'll assume you found the gym to your liking, since that looked like Bull Stewart spotting you?

I thought that I did respond? maybe my dumbass never hit send, and just closed out the window. Yes, I did find Bull's gym. And that is him behind me spotting. The two guys on the side are on his Team. Very good atmosphere at the gym. Kind of small, but has everything. Lots of knowledge on the team between Bull and a guy named Martin.

nice, fast out the hole and your depth was a LOT lower than most people show in a suit which is very good to see :)

I never work anything the day after squats either, tears my elbows to shreds

Congrats! What was the spotter behind you saying about having to get another bar afterwards?

Anotherbutters....he (the gym owner) was saying that he was going to have to get a new bar b/c that one was bending too much. the bar is only rated at 600lbs.

PROTO.....weighed myself at 218 that day....

great stuff!!!
BTW, about squatting and then benching, i have found that the effort of tightening my shoulders on a heavy squat takes a little out of them when i get to the bench.

Awesome lift dude, no doubt.

The only question, how do you wrap you knees, noticed when you walked over they seemed a little crossed and stuff. Not criticizing, just seeing if there's a way you know that I don't. Good stuff, good speed and good depth.

Also, your CNS will be so taxxed after squatting, will definatley effect your bench the next day. Now just imagine doing a full meet, this might make you rethink your openers and strategy, don't make the mistake that I did and expect to make three PR's just from being in a meet. GPP is very important, think what you want to squat, how much gas you will have in the tank and you will really know what I'm talking about when at the end of the day when you have to get up there and dead.

Not being negative in any way, just helping you get ready mentally for when you do a full meet. Comparing it to a game, the squat is like the first quarter, your bench is like the third or fourth quarter and your deadlift is like competing in overtime, how much gas do you have in the tank when overtime comes?

K to you bro!!!

right on. i hear your analogy. I'm not expecting to hit 3 PR's at the meet. what my plan is, is to take my openers at about 90% of my gym PR's. if they feel good, attempt my gym PR for my second lift. if all goes well, go for a new PR on the third. does this sound like a good strategy? i think this should work, b/c I tend to leave some in the tank, especially with my squat. I know I had more in me.

As far as the wraps....I start at the top of the knee, and work my way down, overlapping on the middle strip of the wraps (as you can tell, I have the Inzer's). When I get to the bottom, I pull it diagonally across the knee, go behind, bring it to the front, and diagonally across the front again (this forms a X across the knee cap), then around the back at the bottom, and then tie them off.
Does that discription make sense? If not let me know. I'm not very good at explaining things sometimes, and if it would help, I could do a quick wrap job, and take some pics and post them for you.

BTW what kind of numbers do you have with the bench and deads at the moment?

bench...i hit a shirted 425 with a 1 second pause last week. first time using a Rage X, it was a 54, and I need a 50. Had a 50 to try on tuesday, but had some problems with my elbows.

Deadlift...its been about a month, but I hit 565 RAW. I just ordered the new Inzer Fusion DL suit, which is made with the Rage X material. I should be trying it out next week. Not too sure what to expect out of it just yet. Its a new suit, and hasn't been out on the market for too long. I'll let you know where I am at next week.
