Squat Failure....

Was wondering what the typical squat crash looks like....

Do you fall forward or backwards most of the time?

I've come close, and I instantly feel my butt squirt back; then I feel like I'm totally lifting the remaing rep with my lower back....

I think this fear of failure on the up stroke of the squat is keeping me from going heavier which I know I probably should be doing....

I lift by myself and only use what I feel might be 'qualified' spotters when squatting....my 'club' is so flakely that those spotters are few and far between...

Guess I could lift in the cage rather than a rack...setting the pins to where I might need them....

I've seem comps. but there are like 4 spotters for those bruisers....

I saw a guy squatting about 400 crash
actually he didn't fall forwards OR backwards
he twisted sideways and you could hear his back cracking. he broke his back :(

I bottom out with 455 a few months ago, I got out of my normal groove and fell slightly backwards at the bottom of the lift. THe bar went about 2 inches down and then the safety bars caught the whole thing, no biggy gotta try for big numbers every now and then. Right after I also got caught with 495 just went down slowly and couldn't get out of the whole, funny thing my lower back on both times didn't budge or buckle at all, lol. You might ask why I did 495 after bombing 455, seems silly but when I got in the groove I did 455 with ease and 475 right after. No biggy to crash a set if yo do it with good form

I have gone down three times, two because my form broke down and i pretty much new that going down was my best option and once because my spotter sucked, that one was i hs. I did lose it on the horizontal leg press, because i didn't use my hands as a spot. I muttered help to my partner and he just laughed and said what do you want me to do, we knew it wouldn't be a problem. THe funny thing was i had to inch my way up and out of the chair becuase i was squashed like an accordian, by the time i got out i was about six feet in the air.

Yeah I don't have a power rack to squat in so I don't go heavy very often. :( One time I did try to max and I ended up dumping the weight forward over my head, but didn't fall down. Wasn't a fun experience though.

like Backlash- I fell forward so I dumped the bar over my head. it scared the shit out of me & I didnt squat for about 4 wks after that :(

I saw a guy at my gym leap forward and dump the barbells behind him. He hit his head against the wall though.

that must've been hilarious!
I wish we had video of some of these stories

It was quite scary actually, the sound of the weights combined with the sound of his head thumping on the wall scared everyone around. Luckily the guy got up and only looked a little dazed.

i dropped 315...(this was when i was a complete idiot and didnt even do squats right... went down like 3 inches...) i fell straight down... my legs gave out...good thing it was on the power rack or i wulda had 315 sitting on a pancake of my body

for those of you without a rack to squat in, you can always do heavy front squats.. very easy to dump without injury. elbows down, hop back, the weight falls and you're a couple of feet away from it. still gonna crash like hell though.

I am tryin to get up there in weight for front squats---but the most I can hold right now is 225---my core just isn't strong enough for anything more----
